Tom Brennan - 2018 METS DRAFTEES – PROGRESS UPDATE

Tom Brennan - 2018 METS DRAFTEES – PROGRESS UPDATE

It truly is early post-draft, but what else am I going to write about – how about the Mets and how bad they are doing?

Nah, let’s look at the draftees.  Those who have played, or at least are listed with a rookie league roster, even if they have not played yet.

Those truly excelling in red.

Those doing quite well in blue.

Not too many highlighted for 3 reasons: 1) many are still to sign and/or play; 2) some have done well but in very limited outings (e.g., 2 innings pitched to date); and 3) off to a weak start.

Here goes:

Jarred Kelenic, 1st round, 18 yr: .579/.619/.737 in 5 GCL games. My advice?  Promote him to Queens!

Adam Hill, 4th round, 21 yr, 6’5”, 215, RHP:  Assigned to Brooklyn – yet to play.

Ryley Gilliam, 5th round, 21 yr, RHP:  Assigned to Brooklyn – yet to play.

Nick Meyer, 6th round, 21 yr, C: Brooklyn – 4 games, 4 for 17, .235/.235/.235. Allowed 4 steals in 4 tries.

Kevin Smith, 7th round, 6’5”, 230, 21 yr, LHP: Brooklyn, 3 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 5 K.  So far, so nice.

Tyler Megill, 8th round, 6’6”, 230, 22 yr, RHP: Brooklyn, one shaky outing – 2/3 IP, 2 K, 3 BB 1 HBP

Bryce Montes de Oca, 9th round, 6’7, 265, 22 yr, RHP: Assigned to Brooklyn – yet to play.

Manny Rodriguez, 10th round, SS, Brooklyn: 9 games, .226/.314/.258, but last 4 games have been the best for him after a 1 for 15 start.

Ross Adolph, 12th round, OF, 6’1”, 190 – Brooklyn: 13 games, 12 RBI, .260/.345/.300, 3 triples, 3 steals, 18 Ks.

Christian Tripp, 13th round, 6’7”, 260 RHP, Brooklyn: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1K

Andrew Mitchell, 14th round, 6’0”, 190 LHP, Brooklyn: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K

Phil Capra, 15th round, C – Kingsport: 3 for 15, 1 HR, 4 RBI.

LA Woodard, 16th round, SS – Kingsport: 3 games, 5 for 13, 3 doubles, 4 RBI, .385. Nice!

Allan Winans – 17th round, RHP, 6’2”, 175 – Kingsport: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 K

Chase Chambers – 18th round, 1B, 6’1”, 250 – Brooklyn: 13 games, .366/.466/.490, 10 RBI, 1 K every 10 plate appearances – very nice!

Tommy Wilson, 19th round, RHP, 6’3”, 210, 22 yr: Assigned to Brooklyn – yet to play.

David Miranda, 25th round, OF, 23 yr, Brooklyn: 9 G, .154/.281/.331.

Brian Sharp, 26th round, 3B, 21 yr, Brooklyn: 8 G, .192/.323/.308.

Mitch Hickey, 28th round, RHP, 22 yr, 6’0”, 185: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K.

Nelson Mompierre, 29th round, C, 22 yr, GCL Mets: 1 for 12, 5 walks so far.

Chandler Avant, 30th round, Brooklyn, 2B, 22 yr: 9 G, .167/.265/.233.

Mostly, the 3 rookie league teams so far have done very well to date due to international promotions from the DSL, and due to improved performances from returning players such as scorching hot Anthony Dirocie in Kingsport, and not due to 2018 draftees’ performances to date.

But, as I said, it is early, and I will follow up in another week or two on these gentlemen.

Having 5-6 players in red/blue are (sadly) around average for a draft

de Oca went immediately onto the DL (???)

de Oca has had an injury history - let's see what happens.

The 5-6 # in red/blue hopefully will expand over the next few weeks, as I excluded a bunch of prospects who had barely played - too soon to get a read.

It still seems most of the best performers so far are el internacionales.
