About
last night’s game…
I’ve
told you this for years, plus it’s no big secret in baseball.
Middle field defense wins or loses
baseball games.
Most
of the outs are created by either the catcher, the pitcher, the middle
infielder (2B and SS) and the center fielder.
You
play your best defensive players, on their natural positions, and you will win
more games.
The
Mets have one natural center fielder. Juan Lagares. And it really doesn’t
matter if we sacrifice potential runs with him in the game.
How many runs did
you have without him in the lineup?
And what is Lagares’ stat line since the
All Star break?
I
love Michael Conforto but he is a corner outfielder. Both those balls that were
hit over his head would have been caught by Lagares, changing the outcome of
this game.
This
is another Mickey Mouse call by whoever determined the starting lineup these days.
1B Anderson Bohorguez was promoted from the GCL-Mets to A+
St. Lucie
This
is an end of the year short term promotion between two teams that play in the
same sports complex. Saves Jeff a plane ticket and also fills the vacant locker
left when 1B Jeremy Vasquez was promoted to AA-Binghamton

The
Mets' next 3 series: Cubs, Phillies, Nationals
The
3 teams ahead of the Mets in the Wild Card race:
Cubs,
Phillies, Nationals
This
is as close as you can get to playoff games in late August/early September.
Brooklyn
Amazins -@BKCyclones
Since
July 9th, RHP Garrison Bryant leads all of MiLB with a 0.86 ERA,and ranks
second in all of professional baseball.
The righthander has allowed just five runs, earned, in 52.1 innings on
the mound over the span
-elevated to blue status
Kudos –
AAA-Syracuse
– really… none
AA-Binghamton
– RP Adonis Uceta: 2-IP, 0-R, 4-K, 1.46
A+
St. Lucie – LF Zach Ashford: 4-5, R, 2-RBI, .500
This
one slipped by me. Ashford must have been promoted here from Columbia earlier this
week.
A-Columbia
– CL Allan Winans: 1-IP, 0-R, 2-K, 2.88
Low-A
Brooklyn – DH Gavin Garay: 3-4, RBI
Rookie-Kingsport
– C Andres Regnault: 1-4, R, 2-RBI, .289
GCL – C Matt O’Neill: 3-4, .273
This
the first professional season for the 22/yr. old McNeill, who was drafted this
past June out of the University of Penn.
He
basically backs up blue prospect Endy Rodriguez.

So your contention is that Lagares should be the everyday CF?
Jimmy
Until Brandon Nimmo returns, yes.
Then, he needs to split time with Nimmo in CF
We need his CF defense for the run.
Bryant has been superb. Hopefully, in 2020, he will replicate at higher levels.
Regnault has hit very well - he and Astudillo are two very competent catchers to come along at the same time as future stud Alvarez. If the Mets trade Alvarez, they may lose me as a fan.
Uceta - can he succeed at higher levels? Lots of guys sputter once they get to AAA, where he should be already.
Tom
Bryant has been sneekingly excellent. His first test will be next year when he pitches A ball next spring.
I do not expect Alvarez to be traded but the other two are temting to pack one in the off season for a tade for a legit CF
I really like Uceta.
I hope you are right on Uceta, Mack. The 2018 Cyclone version of this year's Bryant, Jaison Vilera, has had some bad games at higher levels in A ball, but overall he seems to be adapting much better of late, at higher A levels.
Hopefully Bryant has a consistently better 2020 than Vilera's 2019.
I expect Yo to be back next year, unless his injury is terminal, and if he returns healthy he will play. Throw JDD or Squirrel into the mix, and add Nimmo.
If we re-sign Lag, he's our #5, but if we add another CFer instead, he will be starter quality.
So who goes, to make room?
