I BEGGGG you ---PLEEEEEZE don't even use the words Mets and Bauer in the same sentence, unless that sentence is "the Mets pounded Bauer for 10 Runs on 1/3 of an inning in tonight's game".
I believe that the Mets will finalize with Correa. Sure there has been 3 weeks of negotiation with the infamous Scott Boras over special terms for the medical issue. But this is an elite player going into his age 28 year with demonstrated durability from his last few seasons where he played 90% of the available games. He deepens the lineup, improves the defense, and has great leadership qualities.
I believer that the Mets will stay far, far away from Trevor Bauer. Yes, sports gives premier athletes many many new chances, but this is a team led by a businessman that understands ethics. The make-up of the 2022 team showed that they thought about more than just statistics, because that was a very compatible group of players. I don't think they would bring in a poor fit just because he throws a baseball really well.
Correa will be a Met. The question is,what kind of season will he have? Often FAs do poorly their first season. Some never perform to the level of their contract.
What made K-Rod "reprehensi ble"? I know about him punching his GF's father one time, but what else did he do that compares with what Bauer earned an incredibly long suspension for?
The entire Dodgers clubhouse reportedly said they wanted no part of him, and the team ate the remainder of his contract to get rid of him even though he still seemed to have the ability to pitch.
Out of all the players, including some who are still active, NONE have been given the punishment that he did, after a thorough investigation.
Bauer was accused. Bauer was not charged. The woman wanted a restraining order the judge wouldn’t give it in CALIFORNIA! THE MOST LIBERAL STATE IN THE WORLD! Just because we all like dirty laundry doesn’t mean Bauer is guilty, it just means that this girl was looking for some pocket change.
Bauer is a reprehensible human being. Anyone who read the SI feature article on him and his attitudes toward women would at least vote "guilty" to that. I needed to take a shower after reading it, and the actions he has ADMITTED to since then just reinforce my feelings. Why do we want to see him in a NY Mets jersey? Do you want to explain to your 10 year old (son and especially daughter) why he was suspended for more than one year? What cost do we want to put on a pennant?
Unknown writer, your points are worthy of respect, except for the shower. I missed the meaning on that. Baseball suspended him just because they could. There wasn’t any fault found by baseball or even the authorities. In fact, an independent arbitrator ended the suspension effective immediately. There’s no proof. I understand that we all like choirboys, but if choirboys were all we accepted Keith Hernandez was a proven drug user when he came to New York, then everyone fell in love with him. Familia and Reyes were both charged with choking their spouses, but people cheered on. That’s all I’m trying to say. Bauer may be a creep, but it appears more of an unlucky creep in that he fell into a gold digger. Maybe he deserved his punishment, but two investigations found no proof. Where is yours?
What kind of a team are we if we really need Bauer? Why chance the public and player backlash as we won 101 games and are a better team now so lets leave it alone.
I offered no proof of any alleged crime, because I did not intend to. I refer to his own words in the SI article and the admitted behavior with multiple women, whether or not criminal in nature. So as you admit, he is basically guilty of being a creep. An unlucky creep? You easily dismiss his suspension by the folks who did a detailed investigation into his exploits. Given his nature, I would suggest he is lucky that it's a "he said / she said" situation that is always difficult to prosecute. Lucky or unlucky, do you want him on your team?
I don't think SC will sign Bauer because he's a total jerk who is a bad locker room guy. But if he did it would be a total George, Father Flannigan, move. "We are going to help this young man, everyone deserves a second chance". That would be mind numbing and it would be a big mistake. Too risky.
Do I won’t him on the team? I don’t love the idea, but I could live with it. MLB suspended him pending the investigation. If you remember, it was 30 days, and then 30 more, and they kept extending it. I am not here to defend Bauer, but although I know I’m no saint, I’m fortunate to not have millions of eyes on me. I personally think Bauer is a spoiled athlete, but none of this is punishable: not being spoiled, not being a creep, not being a jerk.
It takes an awful lot of evidence for MLB to issue a HUGE unpaid suspension AND for a team to pay a huge salary when releasing a healthy, seemingly still productive player. Not only did both of those happen in Bauer's case, but reportedly virtually every player on the Dodgers adamantly demanded that he not be allowed to return.
We may not be aware of all the evidence, but MLB and the Dodgers are convinced.
And that convinces me.I would sooner have given Cano a 2nd chance than give it to Bauer.

This team would have to polish his image, but both of them would cause the Mets to win 108 or more, IMO.
By “his image”, I mean Bauer’s.
My guess... neither.
Bauer to Jerry Jones
Mack, I think the Mets would be better off with Correa - for 3 or 4 years. Then the bill would come due.

So, Bill, should we put you in the NO column? I just want to be clear :)
You might say that. 🤔

Let's see...the Mets have had K-Rod and others who were reprehensible human beings. Why would Bauer be any different?

How does K-Rod compare?

That was me just now. I join Tom is saying: Both! Bauer may be an idiot, but the world is full of them. It’s not a crime.
Gus and I agree. IF he can convince the Mets he will be a rising apple and not a bad apple. Talk to him, then decide.
