In Queens: The Mets decided to go with experience this season, signing veterans Rod Barajas (.250) and Henry Blanco (.300) . So far (10-HRs), it’s worked out well as a one-year plan.
AAA: Josh Thole (.203) has got off to a miserable start, even though he finds himself currently in Queens due to a leave of absence for Blanco. The Mets just signed J. R. House to back him up, while Tony Maccani (.400), and Jean Luc Blacqueire (.625) await to find out who exits.
AA: Veteran Mike Nickeas (.310) is holding down the fort, waiting for Omir Santos and Luke Montz to come off the DL. In addition, Michael Moras jets between Buffalo, Binghamton, and Savannah when needed. This was supposed to be Francisco Pena’s job this year, but he went out on the DL also with a broken ankle.
A+: Blacqueire (.203) was the starting catcher for the first month, but has since been replaced by Juan Centeno and Taylor Freeman.
A: For some reason, Savannah has two good catchers… Kai Gronauer (.286) has hit with pop, while Dock Doyle (.175) just isn’t getting unough time in the lineup.
Extended Camp:
Luis Allen , Amauris Valdez, Juan Torres, Cam Maron, Nohisglin Rivero, and Nefli Zapata
Disabled List:
Pena, Jordan Abruzzo, Montz, and Santos
2010 Outlook: Nothing should change this year. Thole may come back up in September, but that's about it.
2011 and Beyond Outlook: Look, I listed a lot of names above this sentence, but frankly, there really isn’t that much to get excited about. Yes, Thole had a great year last season, but at best he projects out as a platooned starter in the majors. Pena has been a major bust, and once considered prospect Doyle can’t get a game. Only Gronauer shows promise, but it’s too early to tell.
The Mets have drafted horribly here and haven’t developed a potential star at this position in years. The closest they came was Jesus Flores, who they let the Nats steal away in the Rule V draft a few years ago. I think the last MLB catcher thay developed before whas that guy with the weird eyeglasses.
I’m not a big fan of drafting by position, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Mets to pick Yasmani Grandal with their seventh overall pick on June 7. They really need to spend some time on this position.
On The Bubble:
About half the list.

Don't rule out Nickeas, he may not be a prospect anymore but, he is just 27 and he has major league ability in defense and handling pitchers and if he continues to hit, he should be a consideration to call up.
J.W.:
Don't be surprised that Nickeas doesn't become the Mets minor league catcher coach down the road...
