Augusta 1, Savannah 0

Augusta GreenJackets (24-15) pitching has been the story in the series between the SAL Southern Division’s two best teams. The GreenJackets shut out the Savannah San Gnats (24-15) for the third straight game to pull into a tie for first place. Augusta scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the ninth. The Gnats have not scored a run in the 36 innings of the series.

Savannah starter Brandon Moore continued his excellent May by shutting out the GreenJackets through seven innings on four hits. Moore matched a season-high for a Gnats pitcher with 12 strikeouts and did not walk a batter.

Augusta scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the ninth inning against Savannah relievers Chris Hilliard and John Church. GreenJackets’ 2B Ryan Cavan began the rally with a single, moved to second on 3B Chris Dominguez’s single and third on Luke Anders’ sacrifice bunt. After an intentional walk, Church relieved Hilliard with the bases loaded and struck out SS Sharlon Schoop for the inning’s second out and move within one out of sending the game to extra-innings. However, CF Evan Crawford singled into left field to drive home Cavan with the winning run.

Savannah will send LHP Jimmy Fuller (5-1, 1.81) to the hill Wednesday to try to avoid the sweep. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. The radio broadcast on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com will begin at 7 pm.

Looks like it's time for Moore to get promoted to St. Lucie. He's older than the other pitchers in Savannah, and, he is on fire.

yes, I expect him and Wilmer Flores to be the first two Gnats to "flew the coop"...

So much for the promotions~The Mets promoted some players out of Extended, rather than from Savannah. Bummer~those Savannah guys deserved to be promoted.
