LAST GAME: For the second straight day the Sea Dogs
knocked off the B-Mets by a 7-2 score. The loss marked the
first series loss for Binghamton since their first series of the
season April 8-11 with Akron. Portland lefty Felix Doubront
beat the B-Mets for the second time in 2010 with a seasonbest
six innings in which he allowed just a run on five hits for
his third win. Mike Antonini was roughed up a for a seasonhigh
five runs over 5.2 innings to take the loss. Kirk Nieuwenhuis
and Brahiam Maldonado managed three hits each, but
neither factored in the run-scoring. Marshall Hubbard drove in
both of the B-Mets runs with a third-inning RBI single and an
eighth-inning sac fly.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Eddie Kunz will make his
seventh start of the season tonight. He notched his third win
in his last start versus New Hampshire May 8 with five-plus
innings of four-run work. The converted reliever is 3-2 with a
6.99 ERA in 28.1 innings with 19 walks and 18 strikeouts.
Last year, Kunz made 40 appearances for Buffalo (AAA) with a
4-5 mark and a 5.02 ERA in 61 innings. He functioned as the
B-Mets closer in 2008 when he racked up 27 saves. The
righty was taken by the Mets in the second round (42nd overall)
in the 2007 draft.
RHP David Phelps is slated to make his sixth start of the
young season tonight. In his last go-around, he beat Bowie
May 7 with six, shutout innings of three-hit work including five
strikeouts. Phelps, 3-0, is the Eastern League leader with a
1.21 ERA over 29.2 innings. Last season, he made 26 starts
between Charleston (Low-A) and Tampa (High-A) and was 13-4
with a 2.38 ERA over 141 innings. Hold a career record of 21-
6 and an ERA of 2.49 in 41 starts entering 2010. Phelps was
selected by the Yankees in the 14th round of the 2008 June
draft out of Notre Dame.
