TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons face the Louisville Bats in the final game of a four-game series from Louisville Slugger Field (7:05 p.m.). With a victory today, the Herd can earn a split of the four-game set with the Bats. Buffalo is currently 2-5 on its eight-game roadtrip that concludes tonight. Tomorrow, the Bisons open up an eight-game homestand with the first of a four-game set with the Norfolk Tides.
vs. THE BATS: The Bisons can pick up a season-series victory over the Bats with a win today in this, the final matchup between the Bisons and Louisville this season. The Herd is 4-3 against Louisville this season, thanks in large part to a 3-1 series win back in Buffalo, May 1-4. The last time Buffalo won the season-series over the Bats was in 2007 (5-3).
CLUTCH!: With 38 runs driven in, INF MIKE HESSMAN has five more RBI than any other batter in the International League. The Bisons’ slugger is averaging .415 (17-41) with a 1.000 slugging percentage with runners in scoring position. Twelve of his league-leading 23 extra-base hits this season have come with runners in scoring position (six doubles, six home runs). Hessman has hit in all seven games this current roadtrip with a .333 batting average (9-27).
HIT MACHINE: OF JESUS FELICIANO collected three singles yesterday, his second three-hit game in this series against Louisville. Feliciano is now hitting .360 (32-89) this season, the second highest batting average in the International League. The outfielder trails Durham’s INF HANK BLALOCK by just .002 for the top spot in the IL. Feliciano led the IL with 154 hits in 2010.
HIT CREW: Each Bisons’ position player in the lineup yesterday picked up a hit. The top four in the Bisons order -OF JASON PRIDIE, OF JESUS FELICIANO, INF MIKE JACOBS and INF MIKE HESSMAN- combined to go 8-17 (.471) with seven RBI. The Herd has averaged .291 as a team so far in May.
WITH PRIDE: Bisons’ OF JASON PRIDIE leads the International League with 138 at-bats. The outfielder has hit in 11 of his last 12 games and 18 of his last 20 contests. Pridie has a .414 (12-29) average when leading off the first inning.
METS UPDATE: The Mets (18-16) lost to the Nationals yesterday by an 8-6 final score. Washington took two of three games from New York in the series. Former Bisons OF ANGEL PAGAN had two more hits and is now averaging .282 for the Mets. New York is now in third place in the NL East, 2.5 games behind Philadelphia. The Mets are in Florida tonight (7:10 p.m.) for the start of a four-game series.
