The Bisons added even more pop to their lineup on Friday and it came through in a big way against the Tides. As Buffalo opened up an eight-game homestand at Coca-Cola Field, the Mets gave the Herd another big bat by signing veteran slugger Val Pascucci. The veteran homered in his third at-bat with the Bisons to help his new team to a 5-3 victory over Norfolk. Not to be outdone, Mike Hessman also went deep in the Herd's third consecutive victory.
Pascucci's sixth-inning home run off Chris Tillman was the 194th of his minor league career. The 31-year old had 34 blasts to lead the Pacific Coast League in 2007 and homered 28 more times for the Mets' Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans in 2008.
His first home run as a Bison changed the momentum of the Herd's victory. Buffalo had built a 4-0 lead on Hessman's 11th homer of the season in the third and three more runs in fourth to take command of the contest. But the Tides answered with three runs in the fifth inning to make it a game again.
Pascucci put an end to that when he led off the bottom of the sixth with a towering blast to left field. Neither team scored after Pascucci's first homer with the Herd.
Meanwhile on the mound it was just another eight innings of work for R.A. Dickey. The knuckleballer did give up three runs in the fifth inning, but all of them were unearned on a two-out error from Alex Cintron. Dickey retired the final seven batters he faced to improve to 4-2 on the season. Dickey has now pitched eight innings or more in six of his last seven starts. Elmer Dessens polished off the win for his fifth save of the season.
BISONS:Alex Cintron left the game in the top of the sixth inning after injuring his wrist on a diving attempt. Andy Green filled his spot...The Bisons also activated catcher J.R. House today. He was also signed by the Mets today and went 1-4 with a run scored on Friday night. To make roster room, the Bisons placed OF Fernando Martinez on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain.
