Tonight: The first-place Gnats begin a four-game series against the Rome Braves. Savannah leads Augusta by one game for first place in the SAL Southern Division after splitting a four-game series in Lakewood and an eight-game roadtrip to Lakewood and Delmarva.

Last Time Out: Savannah scored twice in the eighth inning to come from behind to beat Lakewood 2-1. In the eighth inning, Dock Doyle walked, Juan Lagares singled him home, Wilmer Flores singled, and Jefry Marte brought home the goa-ahead run with a groundout. Chris Hilliard earned the win in his Gnats debut with four hitless, shutout innings.

Now Pitching: Mark Cohoon will make his seventh Sand Gnats start of the year. The Gnats are 6-0 in Cohoon’s starts and have supported him with 5.5 runs per game, third among Gnats starters. His 1.62 ERA is fifth-best in the SAL and he is tied with six other pitchers for the league lead in wins with four. He spent all of 2009 with Brooklyn in the New York-Penn League where he was 9-2 with a 2.15 ERA in 14 starts. He fanned 70 and walked 20 in 92 innings. His 2.15 ERA was 6th in the League and the Mets recognized him with the team’s Sterling Award as the Cyclones MVP. In 2008 with Savannah, Cohoon was 2-2 with a 3.82 ERA in seven starts after moving directly from the Kingsport Mets, skipping over Brooklyn. The Mets drafted Cohoon in the 12th round of the 2008 draft out of North Central Texas College.

The Opponent: Rome will send RHP Julio Teheran to the hill tonight. Teheran, who Baseball America ranked as the Braves #3 prospect and top pitching prospect leads the SAL in ERA (0.81). The 19-year old Teheran is first in WHIP (0.78) and batting average against (.150) and fifth in strikeout rate, fanning 10.80 batters per nine innings.
