6-4-12 - Daily Mets Minors Report

Date: 6-4-12

US Sec. of Defense Panetta just landed in Cam Ranh Bay

                          -he’s a little late…

Mets:

Mistermet - The loss of Chris Schwinden to the Blue Jays serves to remind me that all we are is Dust In The Schwind.
Jay Horwitz -  “Even I’m a little bit overwhelmed by the reaction. It’s almost that ‘Now-I-can-die-in-peace’ type of thing.’’
Pedro Beato will join the Mets today.
Chris Schwinden has reported to Las Vegas. Tough gig.
Texas released RHP Sean Green

AAA – Buffalo:

1B-IF Josh Satin was sent to Flushing and replaced on the roster by P Manny Acosta. Also, SS Ruben Tejada joins Buffalo today.
Mr. Harvey pitched tonight. His goal was to win, but his job is to mix up his pitches and add new ways to get people out. The coaches know he can pound the zone with certain pitches, but, simply put, the kid isn’t ready let for the big leagues. He has to hit the right side of the corners on all his secondary pitches.
A perfect example was his four walks in the first two innings. It was balanced with three strikeouts and no runs scored. Pitch count cost him early: 4.0-IP, 5-K, 5-BB, 4-H, 0-R, 3.69. Excellent.

AA-Binghamton
RP Kyle Allen joined RP Scott Moviel on the inactive Brooklyn squad. I’m very surprised the Mets haven’t cut both these guys so they could possibly hook up with a team that would offer them a future. They are done as Mets and insulting them this way is, well, insulting.
MetsBlog – “Lynn Worthy of the Binghamton News says Robert Carson is on his way to New York, although no official move has been announced.”
-Mack – this will totally play out by the time you read this. Carson seems to be the favorite second lefty even though he had no success at all in AAA. He’s lights out at AA (15-appearances, 1.42), however, the 6-3 23-year old lefty should be far past this level by now. The bottom line is the fact that the system right now is light on lefties and Carson just might be the best available right now.
It’s Joe Bonfe’s (.263) turn to play first base today. Eric Campbell (.306) is the DH.
Greg Peavey took the bump again.

A+ - St. Lucie: -
Tampa RHSP Shane Greene shut down the Lucy bats early. DH Jason Bay (.250) had one of the few early hits (Bay will start playing I the field today)
Five runs in the sixth inning was the whole game. Nothing spectacular; just three singles and four walks.
Newbie LF ZeErika McQueen (.333) had three hits.He used to be named ZeErika Hall. Don’t ask. He was chosen as the 29th pick in the 2009 draft. He was the first signee to report and play in a Mets game that year and played for the GCL Mets: .297/.418/.378/.796, 21-BB, 25-K, 5-SB. He was ranked 4th in the league in on-base percentage. Things were peachy  until the off-season and… well, let’s let him tell you what he told me:
“Well, I had a pretty good off season until an injury came along in the right hip around mid-February.  So therefore I went to get exams done and that's when I found out I had a right hip impingement. Same thing A Rod had last year.  So I just had surgery and everything is going ok right now. Right now I'm in New York doing rehab, but I will be going back to Jackson, Mississippi to rehab.  I will not make it for opening day for Cyclones this year.  I should be able to make it the first week of August or later.”
He didn’t, but he’s finally back now and it’ great to see him. Good player. Bad name maker.

A – Savannah:
That’s three bad outings out of four for Alex Panteleodis. This one hurts more since his fiancĂ© is in town. ERA up to 4.12.
Back-to-back homers in the seventh by CF Travis Taijerson (11th… with Darrell Cecilliani out in Lucy, don’t look for this kid to be in Savannah much longer) and Aderlin Rodriguez (10th – 4th  in 5 games)

A – Brooklyn:

Season starts June 18

Rookie – Kingsport:

Season starts June 19th

DSL Mets:

Thanks Mack..I hate to see him lose..but it happens. Easy to break a winning streak, hard to break a losing streak.
