Nor am I.....I wanted McCullers bad....lets hope those guys drop based on signability issues.

I don't think we have a shot at him anywhere, sadly. NOT happy about this Christopher...not at all...

Hawkins, Giolito, McCullers. And Cecchini?! Not a horrible pick but with our options, this is a blown pick. Sorry. Well at the very least, in my mind, Giolito wasn't gonna sign with anyone under the Royals, and McCullers has a few question marks, but those two along with Hawkins would all be better picks in my mind. Oh yeah, first time poster, and have followed you guys for a while. You're all great, and thanks for all the info you've provided.

I would have taken Hawkins, too, and the White Sox just laughed the Mets all the way to the bank.

Don't knock Cecchini either...he is a great athlete. He is great for this system.

What does stephen think? I think id have rather had Minaya picking for us tonight...

Cecchini reminds me a bit of a Lenny D or pete rose in the way he plays, but Hawkins is going to be a top outfielder- he has all-star written on him- and he is the guy I would have taken. Giolito and McCullers are going to college. They probably won't be drafted at all now...

Not knocking Cecchini. As disappointed as I was at first, I really like the pick, and see the Mets thinking. This kid is a prototypical leadoff hitter, as well as good defensive shortstop. I have just fallen in love with Hawkins skillset over the last few weeks and am still shocked he fell. The Sox couldn't have been more happy. I had this feeling they were going with Wacha... at least that didn't happen.

I had Wacha to the White Sox as well.

I got on the C-Hawk bandwagon too and he still was my hands-down selection there.

The Mets fell in love with Nimmo last year and reached and did the same here. They know what they're doing and you're right...he's a leadoff, gold-glove SS speedster type. You know how rare it is to have that in a shortstop? He's a great pick. Regardless of who was still on the board.

Great potential player, GREAT GREAT fit considering this teams lack of anyone with great upside and the potential to steal 40 or so, with great D and a good bat. But I see sooooooo much potential in Hawkins. But either way, I'm happy. In your opinion, who is the best player in this draft when it's all said and done?

David Rubin said...

First, I hope the Nats can't sign Giolito!!! Second, I think the best player in the draft might end up being Kyle Zimmer- he has 4 plus pitches and has only been a starter for 2 years, so his arm doesn't have the mileage on it that others do. Giolito has the highest upside period, and McCullers second. I would have KILLED for the Mets to grab him- PERIOD!!

Anon,

I have been saying Carlos Correa is the best player in this draft even back when he was projected to be around when the Mets pick. I am sticking with it. On the pitching side, there are a lot of options but I have to think it's Stroman or Fried.

Whoever it is, sadly, it won't be a met...

I like Gausman, Zimmer, and a guy the Mets should look at in the supplemental, Juan Orlando Barrios as far as "when it's all said and done" conversations.
