Gorski, B-Mets Offense Silence Thunder,12-0


TRENTON,NJ – The Binghamton Mets ripped the Trenton Thunder for a season-high 18 hitsand Darin Gorski tossed a career-high eight shutout innings in a 12-0 winSaturday night at Waterfront Park. The B-Mets reached .500 for the first timesince May 23 with their third straight win.

TheB-Mets unloaded on the Thunder for 18 hits, including a season-high four homeruns. Josh Rodriguez became the second B-Met in as many games to collect fivehits. The shorststop finished a home run shy of the cycle. Eric Campbell launchedtwo home runs and set a career-high with five RBI.

Binghamtonwasted little time to grab the lead. For the fifth straight game, the B-Metsplated a run in the opening frame. Josh Rodriguez started by ripping a tripleagainst starter Shaeffer Hall. Matt den Dekker brought him home by singling upthe middle. Rylan Sandoval doubled the B-Mets lead with a solo home run in thesecond.

Hall’sstruggles continued in the fourth. Kai Gronauer and Pedro Zapata started theinning with singles and were driven home when Rodriguez laced a double to left,giving Binghamton a 4-0 advantage.

Binghamtonused the long ball to extend their lead against the Trenton bullpen. Ryan Pope tookover for Hall in the sixth. Reese Havens greeted the righty by ripping a solo shotto right, his third homer of the season. Eric Campbell tagged Pope for atwo-run round-tripper in the seventh.

Theearly lead was more than enough for Darin Gorski. The left-hander faced no morethan four hitters in each of his first seven innings. Gorski scattered fivehits through the first seven frames and never allowed any Thunder hitter toreach third.

Binghamtonput the game out of reach in the eighth. Havens reached on a fielding error byLuke Murton to start the inning and scored two batters later when AddisonMaruszak booted a ground ball. Joe Bonfe, a defensive replacement for Jefry Marteat third in the sixth, followed by ripping an RBI single to left. Eric Campbellcapped the frame by ripping a three-run bomb to left, his second homer of thegame.

Gorski’sshutout stretch nearly came to an end in the eighth. After Yadil Mujica reachedon an error by Havens at second, the lefty allowed a pair of singles to loadthe bases. The southpaw escaped unharmed by getting David Adams to line out toshort and inducing Melky Mesa to bounce into an inning-ending double play toshort.

Gorski(4-3) spread out seven hits over eight innings and struck out three whilewalking none to earn his second straight win. Erik Turgeon came on in the ninthand posted a scoreless inning to secure the series victory.
