Harrisburg Repeats Feat, B-Mets Fall, 4-3


HARRISBURG,PA – For the second straight night, the Harrisburg Senators scored two runs inthe bottom of the seventh inning, defeating the Binghamton Mets in comebackfashion by a 4-3 score Wednesday night at Metro Bank Park. Eury Perez ripped a go-ahead,two-run double off Robert Carson to lead the Senators to victory.

TheB-Mets pounded out 13 hits in the game, but compiled just three runs, allcoming home in the first inning. Matt den Dekker started the rally in the firstby doubling to right against starter Mike Ballard. Josh Rodriguez brought himhome by launching a triple to left center. Jefry Marte followed with a tripleof his own, lacing a three-bagger to center. Juan Lagares capped therun-scoring attack by bouncing an RBI single up the middle.

TheSenators had a quick response in their first turn at bat. Perez led off byripping a double to right against B-Mets starter Collin McHugh. Manny Mayorsongot Harrisburg on the board by sending an RBI double down the left field line. DevinIvany cut the lead down to one with an RBI single in the second.

McHughshook off his shaky first two innings and settled in. After the hit to Ivany, therighty retired 13 of the next 16 Senators, allowing just one hit over thestretch. His good fortune came to an end in the seventh. He hit Ivany with apitch and surrendered a pinch hit double to Jimmy Van Ostrand. The hit endedhis night.

Withthe B-Mets clinging to a 3-2 lead, Robert Carson entered the game with thetying run on third and go-ahead run at second. The lefty could not preserve thelead. The first batter her faced, Perez, shot a 1-0 offering down the right fieldline for a two-run double.

Afterscoring three runs in the first, the B-Mets never touched home again in thegame. Ballard capped his night with five scoreless innings and handed off toRyan Tatusko. The righty worked around a leadoff single to post a scorelessseventh inning.

FollowingPerez’s game-breaking double, reliever Erik Davis took over in the eighth. He collectedhis fourth save with two scoreless innings that were loaded with game-saving plays.

Withtwo outs in the eighth inning and Juan Centeno at second, Pedro Zapata waved atthe third strike from Davis. The ball kicked free from Ivany and the catcher’sthrow to first evaded Tim Pahuta. Centeno tried to score from second, but wasgunned down as Pahuta recovered and fired home to end the inning.

Inthe ninth, Matt den Dekker led off the inning with an infield single. With oneout and Jefry Marte hitting in a 2-2 count, den Dekker broke for second. Martestruck out swinging and den Dekker was called out on batter’s interference toend the game.

McHugh(5-4) allowed four runs on six hits over 6.2 innings of work in the losingeffort. Two of his runs scored under Carson’s watch. Carson suffered his secondblown save of the year. Tatusko (1-1) collected his first win of the season.

TheB-Mets (26-29) look to avoid the sweep Thursday night against the Senators at7:00 PM. RHP Zack Wheeler takes the mound against LHP Danny Rosenbaum. TheHorizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show for the day’s action begins at 6:45PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
