Late Lead Escapes B-Mets in 9-6 Loss


HARRISBURG,PA – The Harrisburg Senators scored four unanswered runs over their final twoinnings and defeated the Binghamton Mets in comeback fashion 9-6 Tuesday nightat Metro Bank Park. The loss was Binghamton’s seventh straight in a seriesopener.

TheB-Mets took a one-run lead into the seventh inning, but relievers Brandon Mooreand Brad Holt combined to allow two runs on two walks, one hit and a hitbatsman in the decisive inning. Manny Mayorson delivered the big hit, a two-runsingle against Holt.

TheB-Mets jumped out to an early lead against Harrisburg starter Paul Demny in thefirst inning. Josh Rodriguez set the table my lacing a one-out double down theleft field line. Jefry Marte followed by blasting a two-run homer to leftcenter, his fourth home run of the season. Matt den Dekker added to the leadwith an RBI single in the second.

TheSenators countered against B-Mets starter Mark Cohoon in the third. ChrisMcConnell singled to start the inning and came home on a basehit by Eury Perez.After Perez was picked off and Mayorson singled, Jesus Valdez ripped a two-runhomer to knot the game at three.

AfterDevin Ivany scored on a wild pitch to give the Senators their first lead in thefourth, the B-Mets answered back and tied the game in the fifth. Den Dekker scoredfrom first on Reese Havens’ double down the left field line

Valdezkept his power stroke and broke the tie game by bouncing a solo home run offthe left field foul pole to lead off the sixth. It was the final frame forCohoon. The lefty allowed five runs on seven hits over six innings in theno-decision.

Trailing5-4, the B-Mets refused to go quietly in the seventh. Harrisburg relieverCameron Selik recorded one out in his Double-A debut, but left due to injurywith a 3-2 count on pinch hitter Rylan Sandoval. Pat McCoy came on in emergencyrelief and completed the walk to Sandoval. After consecutive singles loaded thebases, Jefry Marte ripped a two-run double down the left field line to giveBinghamton a 6-5 lead.

Thelead did not stand for long. Moore took the mound in the seventh and issued twowalks and hit a batter before being lifted for Holt. Mayorson greeted therighty by smashing a two-run single to left. Harrisburg tacked on two more runsagainst Holt in the eighth.

TheB-Mets failed to muster any threats against the back-end of the Harrisburgbullpen. Marcos Frias used two strikeouts to work around a one-out single inthe eighth and Hector Nelo tossed a perfect ninth to earn his sixth save. McCoy(3-0) suffered his first blown save, but earned the win. Moore (0-1) was dealthis first loss, while Holt experienced his second blown save.
