August 19th - Mets 6, Twins 1
Monday afternoon in Minnesota, Dillon Gee went 7 2/3 strong allowing just 1 unearned run, the Mets beat the Twins 6-1. Gee continues to impress. His era in August has been stellar 1.72. Gee was never in jeopardy allowing just 7 hits, he walked 1 and struck out 9. Offensively the Mets got to Kyle Gibson right from the get-go amassing 10 hits and 4 runs off the start making for a short day. Gibson only lasted 3 2/3 innings. The Met scored single runs in the 1st and 2nd on rbi single by Andrew Brown and Eric Young Jr. In the 4th the Mets scored 2 more times chasing Gibson on singles by Omar Quintanilla and Daniel Murphy. Wilmer Flores added an rbi single in the 7th , in the 9th Marlon Byrd hit a solo homer (a career high tying 20th on the season) to cap the Mets scoring. Overall the Mets tallied 14 hits on the day, Young, Murphy, Byrd, Brown, Flores, Juan Lagares and Quintanilla each had 2 hits apiece. The Twins scored an unearned run in the 7th when an error by Murphy allowed Trevor Plouffe to score. Gee gets the win he improves to 9-8 on the season and lowers his era to 3.60. Scott Atchison pitched the 9th for the Mets. Gibson takes the loss for the Twins he’s now 2-4. The Mets are now 57 up and 66 down on the year and 32-34 on the road. Tuesday night the Mets are back home in Flushing to face the scorching hot Braves and start a 9 game home stand. Zach Wheeler (5-2 3.43) goes for the Mets.
