August 21st 10 innings - Braves 4, Mets 1
Wednesday afternoon at Citifield Chris Johnson hit a 3 run home run in the top of the 10th, the Braves beat the Mets 4-1. The homer came after a very close play at first that might have ended the inning. The loss wastes a stellar performance by Jon Niese. Niese was terrific going 7 allowing just 5 hits 1 run (earned) he walked 3 and struck out 9 for the second straight outing. The Mets took a 1-zip lead in the bottom of the 4th on a solo homer by Satin, his 2nd on the year. The Braves got to Niese for their only run off him in the top of the 6th on an rbi single by Met killer Freddie Freeman. The score stayed tied until the top of the 10th. Scott Rice came in and allowed a single by Andrelton Simmons, then the controversial single by Freeman on the ball hit back to Rice that might have gotten the Mets out of the inning. In came Greg Burke and on his first pitch, Chris Johnson hit a 3 run homer (#10) to give the Braves the 4-1 lead. Niese gets a no decision, he lowers his season era to 4.05. Rice who was responsible for the game winning run takes the loss he falls to 4-6. Luis Avilan gets the win. The Mets fall to 58-67 and 26-33 at home. Thursday is an off day for the Mets. Friday night Miguel Cabrera and the Tigers come to town for a 3 game weekend series. Carlos Torres (2-2 3.00) goes for the Mets, Doug Fister (10-6 3.23) goes for Detroit. https://www.facebook.com/MetsForum
