August 3rd - Royals 4, Mets 3 - 12 innings
Saturday Afternoon, Justin Maxwell hit a solo home run against David Aardsma to break a 3-all tie in the top of the 12th inning. The Royals beat the Mets in extra innings 4-3. Jeremy Hefner moved up a day in the rotation to start the game for the Mets. In the bottom of the 2nd Daniel Murphy hit a solo homer run (#9) off Bruce Chen to make it 1-zip. In the top of the third, KC got to Hef for 3 runs. Geoge Kottaras hit a solo homer to tie it. That was followed by a sac-fly by Alex Gordon and a rbi opposite field single by Miguel Tejada to make it 3-1 Royals. It stayed that way till the bottom of the 8th when Josh Satin tied the game up with a two run single and on to extras they went. Hefner went 6 innings he allowed 8 hits 3 runs (all earned) he walked none and struck out 6 coming away with the no decision. Offensively, the amazins collected 8 hits on the day lead by Satin and Murphy with 2 hits apiece, for Satin he snapped an 0-11 streak in the game. Meanwhile, the Mets bullpen consisting of Gonzalez Germen, Pedro Feliciano ,Scott Atchison, Scott Rice and Aarsdma was impressive retiring 16 straight batters, before Maxwell, who just came over from Houston, hit the game winning homer. Kelvin Herrara pitched 3 scoreless innings to get his 4th win. Aardsma takes the loss, he’s now 2-1. With the Loss the Mets stand at 49-59 and 22-31 at home. The Mets go for the series win on Sunday. Zach Wheeler (4-1 3.55) coming off his excellent start in San Francisco goes for the Mets. Ervin Santana (7-6 3.03) goes for the Royals. https://www.facebook.com/MetsForum
