August 4th - Royals 6, Mets 2
Sunday in Flushing, Marlon Byrd lost two flyballs in the sun in the 5th inning that gave the Royals some breathing room and victimized Zach Wheeler as the Royals scored 3 times….the Royals beat the Mets 6-2. Wheeler was breezing along till the 4th inning when Mike Moustakas hit a homer to right to make it 1-zip KC. In the 5th the two misplays by Byrd, 3 walks, a wild pitch by Wheeler and a passed ball by John Buck lead to the three runs scoring. The big blow came with second and third and 1 out in the 5th on a two run bloop single by Lorenzo Cain. In the 7th the Royals jumped all over the usually reliable rookie Gonzalez Germen. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, and a run was saved by Juan Lagares who nailed Eric Hosmer at third. For Lagares, his 7th assist on the year. The Mets scored their first run in the 5th on a rbi single by Eric Young Jr. They made it 6-2 in the 8th on a rbi single by John Buck. Wheeler went 5 innings, he allowed 5 hits 4 runs 3 earned he walked 5 and struck out 5. He takes the loss falling to 4-2. Ervin Santana started for the Royals and had everything well in hand. He went 6 allowed 1 run and stuck out 5 he’s now 8-6. On the year the Mets are now 49-60 and 22-32 at home. Monday is an off day. Tuesday Night the Rockies come to town.
