LAST GAME: The B-Mets lost to the Altoona Curve, 2-1 in 13 innings in the series finale on Thursday night. Carlos Paulino hit a pinch-hit, walk-off single in the bottom of the thirteenth inning to hand Binghamton the loss. Binghamton pounded out 10 hits, but went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 runners in the rubber match loss. Binghamton scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning when Wilfredo Tovar hit a two-out single up the middle to score Darrell Ceciliani. The first Altoona run came in the sixth on a Gregory Polanco sacrifice fly. In the inning, the Curve scored a run without a base hit against Erik Goeddel. Both teams went scoreless after the sixth until Paulino’s single in the 13th. After the B-Mets won the series opener on Tuesday, they were defeated in each of the final two games.

BINGHAMTON PITCHER: RHP Greg Peavey makes his second start of the season for the B-Mets. In his first start, Peavey threw 4.0 innings in a no-decision against the Trenton Thunder. He gave up one run on three hits, and Binghamton eventually won the game, 4-1. He began 2013 with Las Vegas (AAA), and went 4-3 with a 6.00 ERA in 38 bullpen appearances. He spent all of last season with the B-Mets as a member of their starting rotation. In 25 starts last year, he went 8-8 with a 5.06 ERA. He made one start against the Senators, and gave up one unearned run in seven innings on the hill. Greg was selected by the Mets in the sixth round of the 2010 draft out of Oregon State University.

HARRISBURG PITCHER: RHP Taylor Hill makes his eighth start of the season for the Senators. In his last start, he was tagged with the loss against the Portland Sea Dogs. He gave up four runs and five hits in 5.0 innings on the mound. That last start came at Fenway Park in the Futures at Fenway Game. He started the season with Potomac (High-A), and went 6-2 with a 2.99 ERA in 14 starts. In his Double-A debut on June 26, the Senators scored 11 runs behind Hill. In his six starts since, they have scored a total of 12 combined runs. He was drafted by the Nationals in the sixth round of the 2012 draft out of Vanderbilt University.

EXTRA INNINGS: Thursday’s loss to Altoona was the sixth extra-inning game Binghamton has played in this season. They are 2-4 in those games in 2013. 13 innings was the second-longest game that Binghamton has participated in this season; on July 12 they lost to the Portland Sea Dogs, 5-4 in 15 innings.

AVOIDING THREE STRAIGHT L: After winning the first game of the Altoona series on Tuesday, they lost each of the last two games. The B-Mets have only lost three games in a row one time this season. They lost three straight from May 1 - May 3 against Erie (2 games) and Harrisburg (1 game).

 

 

INTO THE HISTORY BOOKS: Jeff Walters earned his 30th save of the season on Tuesday against Altoona, adding to his franchise record for most saves in a single season. He passed the record held by Jerrod Riggan, who recorded 28 saves in the 2000 season.  The most career saves in Binghamton history is 36, set by Tim Lavigne. Walters is currently tied for second with Eddie Kunz (‘08, ‘10) on that list.

TRYING TO FIND THE BATS: Over their last seven games, Binghamton is hitting .188 (43-for-229) as a team. They are 3-5 during that stretch, and have been held to five hits or less in six of those eight games. They are hitting .197 (12-61) with runners in scoring position during that time.

HOMERLESS DROUGHT: As a team, Binghamton has only hit three home runs in their last 13 games. On the season, the B-Mets rank third in the league with 92 round trippers. Allan Dykstra is tied for second in the league with 18 home runs.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continues their three-game series against Harrisburg on Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7:00 PM as the B-Mets send RHP Logan Verrett to the mound against RHP Nathan Karns for Harrisburg.
