Bowie 4 - Binghamton 1
BINGHAMTON, NY –The Bowie Baysox scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie as they defeated the Binghamton Mets, 4-1 on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. A throwing error by Danny Muno led to two unearned runs against Ryan Fraser in the decisive inning.
Starting pitchers Greg Peavey and Eduardo Rodriguez each had success in their first trips through the batting order, as each pitcher faced only one batter over the minimum through three innings. In the top of the fourth, Caleb Joseph was the first to reach scoring position when he doubled against Peavey with two outs. After a walk to Seth Loman, Josh Horton hit a double over Travis Taijeron’s head in right field. Joseph scored easily from second base, but Loman was cut down at the plate trying to score as Taijeron notched his third outfield assist.
Binghamton failed to score against Rodriguez until the sixth inning. Josh Rodriguez sent a one-out double down the right field line, making him the first B-Met to reach scoring position against Rodriguez. With the infield shifted to the right with two outs, Allan Dykstra hit a ground ball to the left side of the infield. Brandon Waring was the only infielder on that side, and wasn’t able to come up with the grounder as it tipped off of his glove and went into left field. Rodriguez scored on the play as Binghamton tied the game at one.
Both starters left the game after allowed one run over six innings. Ryan Fraser threw a 1-2-3 top of the seventh, but ran into trouble in the eighth. After Kyle Hudson singled with one out, Trayvon Robinson hit a chopper into the hole at shortstop. Muno made a nice play to get to the baseball, but his throw went wild past second base and went far enough away for Hudson to score from first base. Two batters later, Joseph brought home another run with an RBI single to left field. Both runs were unearned against Fraser, but Bowie broke the 1-1 tie.
Matt Bischoff held the B-Met offense at bay by throwing two scoreless innings after relieving Rodriguez. The righty picked up four strikeouts, and only allowed one base hit. Bowie added one final insurance run in the ninth against Chase Huchingson. With two outs, Waring hit a high fly ball that landed barely past the left field wall for a solo home run. It was his 19th of the season as Bowie took a 4-1 lead.
In the ninth, closer Oliver Drake slammed the door for Bowie. Taijeron reached base on a walk, but the tying run was left in the on-deck circle. Fraser (1-2) was tagged with the loss, while Bischoff (6-2) earned the win in relief.
The B-Mets (80-49) finish up their three-game series against the Baysox (65-63) on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton sends RHP Logan Verrett to the mound to face RHP Tyler Wilson. First pitch is set for 6:35 PM with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show beginning at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
