Hey would you look at that! One of Omar Minaya's bonus babies has actually reached the majors! Flores has been with the Mets organization for what seems like forever as he entered his 6th season with the club. There has never been any doubts about his ability to hit as he was usually at the tops of the RBI Leaders list at each level he played at. His K rate has also never been above 13.6% in the minors and was at one point as low as 10.9%. He's also expected to add more power once he fills out his 6' 3" frame with another 10-15 pounds of muscle. Flores could very well become a 20-25 HR, 100 RBI threat that the organization has so desperately needed.
On the flip side the knock on Flores has always been his defense. Flores was naturally a 3B but organizational needs slotted him in at SS to begin his career where, although showing off an above average arm, he struggled mightly committing 80 errors over the course of 3 1/2 minor league seasons. In 2012 the club then moved him back to his natural position but began spotting him at 2B in another attempt to convert him into a position of need. While his play at 3B was uninspiring (10 errors in 87 games), he showed that he possibly could handle 2B as he only committed 1 error in his 27 games there. The organization finally moved him there full time this season and he's been a below average defender, but holding his own to a point where his bat can make up the deficiencies.
This is Flores last time on the prospect list as he earned a call-up to the big league club last week to replace the injured David Wright at 3B. He had a huge first week with the club batting .261 with a HR, 9 RBI's, and only 1 K. This kid definitely has the bat to stay in the big leagues.....now its all about finding him a position.

As long as Ike's hitting continues to resemble Dave Magaden's, he needs to learn first base. If Ike gets his HR stroke back next year, then play Flores at 2B, and move Murph to super-sub.
I've always found it puzzling that righties are allowed to play against righties but lefties must sit against lefties...then again, I'm not Terry Collins. I don't hold grudges nor demean and humiliate younger players.
I'll take Dave Magadan any day. I'd rather have Ike Davis getting on base at a 50% clip then at a 20% clip with 30 bombs.
I still think Flores is destined for 2B with Murphy being traded.
huh?
It does seen as if Terry has his sites set on a few of the younger guys. He doesn't like Tejada and, in my opinion, thinks Wheeler should be able to strikeout any player at will.
He will NEVER say something bad about any veteran. Murphy makes a lot of stupid mistakes and is extremely hot and cold at the plate, but according to Terry, he's a .300 hitter and can do no wrong.
He always praised Beltran and Reyes, loves Quintania, and is horrible at managing a bullpen. He nearly ruined Brydak's career. Edgin had to get his left arm surgically stitched back onto his shoulder after last season....he came back throwing in the high eighties instead of 95 and has never been the same.
It's safe to say that I just don't like him. I hated when he took Hefner out after like 75 pitches after 7 innings of shutout ball just to let Valdespine pinch hit in a tie game. He would have never taken out Gee, Niese, or Harvey, but the mild mannered Hefner got pulled. I just think Terry pushes around the guys he knows he can and is chicken shit to do it to the players who rule the clubhouse.
