LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets committed four errors in a 7-3 loss to the Erie SeaWolves at Jerry Uht Park on Friday. Dustin Lawley committed two of the fielding blunders. Brian Burgamy went 3-for-5, while Kyle Johnson knocked in two RBI. Rainy Lara tossed six innings and allowed four runs (three earned), walked four and struck out four others. Erie starter Kyle Ryan went 6.2 innings and gave up two runs and struck out six. Four SeaWolves tallied multi-hit games.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Cory Mazzoni makes his second start of the season and first against Erie. Mazzoni won his first outing on Monday, July 7. He threw five innings of three run ball in a 11-4 victory of the Portland Sea Dogs. Mazzoni missed the first half the season after being injured in New York’s final spring training game. It was his third stint on the disabled list since the start of the 2013 season. The Evans City, Pennsylvania product was taken by the Mets in the second round of the 2011 draft out of NC State.
ERIE STARTER: LHP Ryan Robowski makes his 29th appearance of the season, but just his second start. His only other start came in his last outing on Tuesday, July 8 at the Altoona Curve. Robowski went four innings and allowed two runs on three hits and struck out four in an 11-5 Erie victory. The Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania native has made three previous appearances against Binghamton. He’s 1-0 and hasn’t allowed a run in 7.2 innings. He’s struck out 15 batters during that stretch. The Ohio Dominican University product was acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks on January 24, 2011.
YA DON’T SEE THAT EVERY DAY: Binghamton committed four errors in the loss to Erie, on Friday. The team had committed the fewest errors in the league going into the game, but the four on Friday dropped them to third. It was the second time the B-Mets had four fielding blunders in a game this season.
BIT BY THE SEAWOLVES: After starting the season 6-1 against Erie, Binghamton has lost four of five. That includes last weekend at NYSEG Stadium when the SeaWolves won three of four. The B-Mets have been outscored 33-25 during the stretch. The teams play 22 times in 2014. That’s the most games Binghamton plays against any team in the league.
WORKING FOR THE WEEKEND: Binghamton is 20-12 in games played on Saturday and Sunday this season. That includes a 12-7 mark on the former. The team is 4-2 on Saturday since June 8, with both losses coming to Erie.
COOL WHIP: Binghamton and Erie are on opposite sides of the spectrum in WHIP this season. The B-Mets are tied with New Hampshire and Akron for the league lead at 1.28, while Erie is last at 1.51. The SeaWolves also have a 4.97 ERA, the highest in the league.
TAIJERON KEEPS TRUCKING: Binghamton OF Travis Taijeron went 1-for-4 in Friday’s loss to extend his hitting streak to six games. That ties his longest streak of the season. Taijeron also accomplished the feat from June 10 - June 14. He’s hitting .407 (11-for-27) with four home runs during the streak.
FANTASTIC FOUR: Binghamton is sending four All-Stars to Altoona next week. Brian Burgamy, Jon Velasquez, Cody Satterwhite and Kyle Johnsonwere all named to the team. Johnson leads the team with 49 runs. Burgamy has hit 15 home runs and leads Binghamton with 53 RBI. Velasquez has the lowest baserunners/9 IP ratio in the league. Satterwhite is 6-for-7 in save conversions this year.
