Eric Campbell came through with a 2 out pinch hit single in
the bottom of the 8th snapping a 4 all tie, the Mets beat the
Marlins Saturday night at Citi Field 5-4. The Marlins took at 2-0 lead against
Daisuke Matsuzaka with a run in the 3rd on a fielder’s choice by
Donovan Solano. In the 5th Christian Yelich hit a solo homer his 8th
on the year. Marlins starter Tim Koehler
held the Met’s hit less for the first 4 innings. Travis d’Arnaud’s leadoff
single in the 5th snapped that string. After a Kirk Nieuwenhuis
double, d’Arnaud scored on a ground out by Juan Lagares. In the 6th back to back doubles by
Garrett Jones and Marcell Ozuna gave the fish a 4-2 advantage. In the bottom of
the 7th after Ruben Tejada walked, Chris Young hit a pitch hit two run
homer to tie the game at 4, for Young his 8th on the year. Then in
the bottom of the 8th d’Arnaud hit a 2 out double and then scored on
Campbell’s single. Dice K went 6 innings
he allowed just 4 hits while giving up 4 runs (all earned) he walked 4 and
struck out a career high tying 10. Carlos Torres, Vic Black and Jenrry Mejia
each pitched a scoreless inning. Black gets the win improving to 2-2, Mejia
gets the save his 10th on the year. The Mets are now 7-2 on this homestand
and stand at 44-50 on the year, they are also now over .500 standing at 24-23
at Citi Field. Sunday the Mets look to end the homestand and the first half of
the year with a sweep of the Marlins. Jacob deGrom (2-5 3.38) goes for the Mets, Brad Hand (0-1 5.09) goes for the Marlins.
