Mack - Sandy-speak

Reaction to Interview: Sandy Alderson

“I think our team is on the right track and I don’t think we’re that far away.”

Let me start off by saying that every one of these statements could be followed by ‘why don’t you just shut the f—k up and go win a ballgame. I’m really sick and tired of Sandy-speak at this point in his administration.

I’m writing this at 5:40pm on July 4th. At this point, the Mets are 10-20 in one run games. Reverse that and their season win loss record would be 47-38, putting them in first place in their division.

(This is not even building in the equation that some of these one run games are against National League teams and would change their win-loss records as well, making the Mets even stronger in the books)
This isn’t being ‘not far away’, nor is it bad luck. It’s simply losing more games than you should.

Get off the microphone and get your manager better ballplayers.

Can the Mets make the playoffs: “It depends on what happens over the next couple of weeks."

I’m sorry, but, at this point in the season, this is just another Alderson copout.

The pitching staff has done a remarkable job (ERA below 4.00) and certain field players have either hit better recently (Granderson, Tejada) or been a pleasant surprise (Campbell), but we’re still talking about a team with limited talent that trying to get this job done with absolutely no support by their front office or owner. It’s pathetic to throw all the blame on the shoulders of these players.

Get on the phone… find someone that can hit the ball harder and longer… find someone that can catch a ball and throw it to first base on time… and find a pitcher or two that can finish the first inning in less than 20 pitchers... DO SOMETHING more than stand in front of a microphone listening to the sound of your own voice.

“90 wins statement was never a goal. It was an attempt to change mindset and get Mets to think in terms of "specificity."

            Does anyone really care anymore?

Refer to first question… ‘why don’t you just shut the f—k up and go win a ballgame’… and ‘get off the microphone and get your manager better ballplayers’.

Alderson, it was always YOUR goal and you know that… and your boss opened his mouth again and made it even worse with his threat.

On the offense and the batting coach -  'I don't think this has anything to do with L.J. It probably has more to do with the players that we have."

So, we're back to blaming the players again and hanging them out to dry. Alderson went out of his way to say that's he's very happy with th direction the team is going and with the players that are in that direction... meaning, you're on your own guys.

On adding Daniel Murphy's salary into the future of the team and not trading him - "I think we have the flexibility to address Daniel's situation."

Well, I'm happy about this. You have to assume that he can't say things like this and then trade the guy. More and more this team looks like it's being directed to blossom' in 2016 or 2017, not next year.

Alderson said Wilmer Flores and Matt Reynolds were 'close' to major league ready to help the club.

I guess Flores' first trip to the majors was premature in Alderson's mind. This is the first time anyone in the Mets front office has muttered Reynolds name which makes one think he has already earned himself a September call-up.

Other than that folks, it was a lot of run on sentences and yada yada... go to Adam Rubin's ESPN site to read most of it...

To stop getting a C grade, Sandy, acquire 2 C's: Cargo and Castro. Then Crush the Competition.

Thomas, I figured out a way to get that done....

you should be able to get Castro for either deGrom or Gee + a secondary pitching prospect like Ynoa

then... Syndergaard, Wheeler, Eric Campbell, and either d'Arnauld or Plawecki for Cargo...

it's going to cost you something big but you can still wind up with a 2015 rotation of Harvey, Colon, Niese, Montero, and either Gee/deGrom... with Matz a year away

and...

Castro, Murphy, Wright, Cargo, Grandy, Duda, d'Arnaud/Plawecki, Lagares

Cargo stinks no thanks

Way too much for Cargo. Always seems to be hurt. I like the Castro deal.

Byrd, Cruz, CY, all cost about the same and Sandy picked the wrong one.

Before going whole hog for Cargo, I would trade decent quantity (no Crown Jewels) for Josh Hamilton and $30M. No bat they get will come without risk and if those, few if any have higher ceiling than Hamilton. He would destroy Citi Field and with the Angels desperate to clear salary over the next three years, he could be gotten for less than other options. Don't tell me about the drugs, there are plenty in So CA

I want no part of Castro. He's hated by the Cubs fans, with good reason. Terrible glove and worse attitude. Doesn't hustle. Andhe's locked in through'19, while we finally have 3 or 4 SSs with ETAs of '15-'17.

The most I'd do if Ruben needs replacing at the end of this season is sign a short term FA like Drew or Lowrie. Save the chips for a big OFbat.

I'm just tired of Alderson.

Time to move on.

No faith left for anything he does, says, thinks, or plans.
