There are times while being a Mets fan it's better when you don't get to see everything lest it test the limits of your blood pressure medication. Sometimes you win despite what you do. Tonight was one of those occasions.
I'm on a 25th anniversary trip to Seattle for a long weekend and just sneaked a peak at the 9th inning of what was supposed to be an easy save. When Daniel Murphy draws accolades from the announcers over you for his DEFENSE saving you from causing yet another Mets defeat, what does that say about your worth to the franchise? It's not enough you took an 0-4 collar, Mr. Tejada, but you failed miserably on a wind-blown pop fly that Murphy was able to corral for the victory.
I've been writing here long enough for my sentiments about certain Mets nonsense to boil over with regularity. There's the inexplicable love affair with Eric Young, Jr. (he of a matching 0-4 handcuffing), the stupidity of playing Ruben Tejada EVER and the lunacy of the guy who fills out the lineup card whose choices and in-game strategy must have Earl Weaver, Billy Martin and Sparky Anderson turning over in their graves.
Tonight, once again, I must raise the question about a man who can't field, can't run, can't drive in runs, has no power and whose only apparent skill is leaving his bat on his shoulder. The Tejada apologists remind me more and more of the Rey Ordonez and Doug Flynn fans who would trumpet the one thing those guys could do - field their positions at a stellar level - as if a single dimension of competence was enough to justify a role in a major league lineup. I'd even buy into the OBP argument if Tejada could run like Eric Young (or Chris Young or even Chris Farley). Getting a guy on base often is a good thing if you can capitalize on it. I'm sorry, I just don't see the value he brings to the table.

I'm with you, Reese. I do not care what Tejada has done, he is sub-par and part of the problem.
At least as a starter.
I like Mack's idea to get Castro and team him up with Murphy - or an equivalent to Castro. We need to upgrade SS....period.
Eric Young Jr (and for that matter Chris Young)? I do not agree Wright s/b coming back - David, get healthy please....but both Youngs should sit - or split. Eric Campbell should get those OF at bats. Do NOT return him to sporadic play. He is 16 for 37 in the last 10 games. Chris Young can't get that many hits in double the at bats. It's Eric Campbell's time to show if he can (yes) be a .300 big league hitter. Against tough righties, consider Kirk to spot start. Campbell should play most of the time. I do not have a problem also playing him at first vs. lefties and having EY in left on those games.
Chris Young must go - now.
Imagine getting Castro and keeping Campbell in the line up - this team could turn it around, IMO.
A trade of:
Castro for (fill in MLB/AAA/AA pitcher name) and (A+/A/Rookie pitcher name) does nothing to hurt your system.
You now have begun to build a solid 1-2-3 order of Castro-Murphy-Wright
Next, like I said... DO THE RIGHT THING and sign Murphy through 2009. I know everybody loves prospects and Herrera looks like the real deal, but so did Reese Havens...
A bird in the hand...
I would now have my 2B, SS, and 3B under contract through 2009 and the position of catcher (d'Arnaud/Plawecki) and 1B (Duda/Smith) under team control for the same amount of years.
Now... ALL MY TIME, MONEY, AND TRADES can concentrate on getting two more top level outfielders
