Wednesday night in Washington, Doug Fister allowed 1
unearned run in 7 1/3 innings and Adam LaRoche hit a pair of homers and drove
in 3, the Nationals beat the Mets 7-1.
Jonathon Niese started for the Mets and the Nats jumped on him in the 1st
inning. Jayson Werth connected for a RBI
single and LaRoche hit a 2 run blast (14) to make it 3-0. In the 6th Danny Espinosa hit a 3
run shot (7) to make it 6-0. The Mets
scored their only run in the top of the 8th on an RBI infield single
by Daniel Murphy. LaRoche hit a solo homer (15) off Carlos Torres in the 8th
to cap the scoring. Niese continues to struggle going 6 innings allowing 8 hits
all 6 runs (earned) walking 2 and striking out 2. He takes the loss falling to 5-8. Fister
improves to 11-3. The Met offense
scattered 8 hits on the night. Murphy and Lucas Duda each had a pair of hits.
Curtis Granderson snapped a 0-18 streak with a bunt single in the top of the 6th. With the loss the Mets fall to 54-60 on the
year and 26-33 on the road. Thursday afternoon is the rubber game of the
series. Jacob deGrom (6-5 2.77) goes for
the Mets. Jordan Zimmerman (7-5 3.00) goes for the Nats.
