Thursday afternoon in DC, Bryce Harper hit a walk off 2 run
homer (4) in the bottom of the 13th. The Nationals beat the Mets
5-3. Jacob deGrom started for the Mets
and while he wasn’t dominant he still pitched well. The Nats took a 2-0 lead in
the 2nd off deGrom with a 2 run homer by Ian Desmond (18). In the third deGrom singled, was bunted to 2nd
and then scored on an RBI double by Daniel Murphy to make it 2-1. Desmond made it 3-1 in the 4th
with an RBI single. deGrom went 6 allowing 7 hits 3 runs (all earned) walking 1
and striking out 4. The Mets tied the game in the top of the 7th on a sac fly
by Eric Young Jr. and a line RBI single
up the middle by Curtis Granderson. It
was on to extras from there. The Met bullpen hurled 6 scoreless innings at the
Nats. In the meantime, Kirk Nieuwenhuis who was celebrating his 27th
birthday made a pair on diving catches in center to keep the game going. Carlos Torres came in the bottom of the 13th
and gave up a walk and the winning blast by Harper. Torres takes the loss he
falls to 5-5, Craig Stammen pitched 3 scoreless innings to pick up the win he’s
now 2-4. Murphy continues to rake going 3 for 6, Desmond hat 2 hits and 3 RBI,
Denard Span had 4 hits for the Nats. The Mets drop 2 of 3 to the Nationals.
They now stand at 54-61 overall and26-34 on the road. Next it’s off the
Philadelphia for a 4 game series with the last place Phillies. Friday night Bartolo
Colon (10-9 4.12) goes for the Mets,
A.J. Burnett (6-11 4.16) goes for
Philly.

Article in Post today on how long Collins will retain his job. Sounded like thru end of season. Terry, play Wilmer and Dekker almost every day, maybe then you'll keep your job. WE NEED OFFENSE. Status quo is not working.
