Mack's Morning Report

My apologies for the lack of the Morning Report today.

I am in contact with Christopher Soto in hopes of an explanation and a confirmation that he will be producing one tomorrow.

If not, I will fill in for him with one of my own reports.

Please use this post for any comments you would like to leave today for all of us to discuss.

Thank you.

Mack

O'Flaherty, Alex Torres, Dario Alvarez, Scott Rice. Which, if any, should be on the playoff roster?

Heard from Chris... he will be back tomorrow morning for the Morning Report.

Tom, this is all opinions, but I have to tell you I would go with Torres first. He's pitched under pressure before... sometimes successfully... :) ... and with Verrett obviously going to take over a 'long' role, he might be a perfect LOOGY

But... you forgot about other potential playoff pen names...

Niese... Colon... even Matz

Good points, Mack. Best 11 pitchers (I'd imagine with days off, 11 are enough)

I would say Alvarez at this point - he needs to so so MLB pitching

However he is eligible since he has been on the MLB roster

It is very nice at the end of August to contemplate post season rosters

11 pitchers, at this point they should include Harvey, deGrom, Thor, Niese Matz, Familia, Clippard, Robles, Verrett and Gilmartin.

That leaves 1 open position with the best lefty making it. Alvarez hasn't done anything yet. O'Flaherty is auditioning right now. If his job is to only get 1 lefty out, maybe it's him. Otherwise, as much as I don't want him, Alex Torres would be the guy. Colon doesn't make my roster.

Kevin S may have figured this out, though I'd hate to be the guy that had to make the decision to off Colon

Another Amazing Met win.

The players on this team are showing their appreciation of the front office finally demonstrating a commitment to winning.
There are strong bonds growing between these players that can hopefully be allowed to continue growing this year and beyond.

Some fun games. Phillies getting frustrated, nice to see after the beatings we took. Sounds like Bowa wants to throw at Murphy today, Phils are already responsible for taking out Blevins and d'Arnaud, fists might fly if they do.

Bob -

Another thing we might want to keep our eyes on through September is how the Dodgers do.

Right now, the Mets have a better record than the Dodgers and would have home field advantage if and when they play them in the playoffs.

Did you all catch this:

Center fielder Desmond Lindsay, the organization’s top pick in June (second round/53rd overall), was promoted Wednesday to Brooklyn. Lindsay, 18, hit .304 with one homer and six RBIs and had a .400 on-base percentage in 21 games in the Gulf Coast League.

Sorry if this is old news, but this is the first I saw it

Welcome news on Lindsay, Lew. Would've been Kaczmarski (too?) but Kingsport is rolling

The Lindsay promotion is a typical late season 'job well done' type of promotion to a team he will probably start next season with.

It will also give him a taste of the Big Apple.

I agree with most, but could see him getting the Dom Smith treatment - he has hit well enough for it this year

Bob Gregory -

Your comment on Larry Bowa and Daniel Murphy seems to have disappeared from the site. I DID NOT remove it.

I went to Deadspin and watched the video of the incident last night and read the story and you are right.

I think there is a good chance that Daniel Murphy doesn't play tonight just to keep things in check.

Credit where credit is due.
I can't take credit for any Bowa-Murphy comment today.
I think it might have been Dallas ' s comment you were referring to.
Let's Go Mets

Just to throw another pitcher into themix, let's not overlook Goeddel. He did a fine job pre-injury, and has done well on the rehab trail. I expect him to get a Sept callup, and could crack the "magic 11".
