Bradenton 6 - St. Lucie 4

The Bradenton Marauders took advantage of a key error in the eighth inning to break a tie and beat the St. Lucie Mets 6-4 on Monday at First Data Field.

With the score tied 4-4 with two outs in the top of the eighth, Bradenton’s Christian Kelley singled to center field. Logan Hill attempted to go from first base to third base and John Mora’s throw from center skipped away from third baseman Jhoan Urena and ended up in the stands. Hill was awarded home to break the tie. The Marauders tacked on an insurance run later in the frame.

Daniel Zamora pitched a perfect eighth and ninth to prevent the Mets from coming back.

New York Mets outfielder Juan Lagares made a rehab start for St. Lucie. Lagares was a spark plug for the five innings he played. His full speed catch in the first inning took away a potential run. At the plate he went 2 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI triple in the fourth that put the Mets ahead 4-3.

The Marauders were able to tie the game with small ball in the sixth. Mets starter Joseph Shaw walked the first two batters of the game and was lifted for reliever Johnny Magliozzi. The Marauders dropped down a sac bunt then used a sac fly from Casey Hughston to make it 4-4.

Dale Burdick hit a solo home run in the third inning to put the Mets up 2-0.

In the first inning Wuilmer Becerra’s RBI double plated Lagares. Becerra has hit safely in all five games.

Shaw pitched five innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs. He walked two and struck out three.

Marauders reliever Yunior Montero struck out six in 3.1 scoreless innings to get the win.

The Mets (2-3) and Marauders (5-0) tangle again at First Data Field on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Press Release
