Augusta 1, Savannah 0 - 18 innings

From Press Release:

The Augusta GreenJackets (22-15) outlasted the Savannah Sand Gnats 1-0 in 18 innings Sunday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, GA. The Augusta win trims the Gnats’ (24-13) lead over the GreenJackers for first place in the Southern Division to two games.

The winning run scored with one out in the bottom of the 18th inning. With one out, Ryan Lollis singled, chasing Gnats’ reliever Brandon Sage from the game in favor of John Church. The first batter Church faced, Evan Crawford singled into right field where the ball was misplayed by right fielder Cesar Puello, allowing Lollis to score from first on the error.

SS Wilmer Flores, who is leading the SAL in batting, was 3-for-6 with a double, to extend his hitting streak to ten games, and was walked intentionally twice. LF Juan Lagares was 2-7, to run his hitting streak to eight straight games.

Starter Armando Rodriguez gave Savannah seven shutout innings in which he allowed just three hits. Collin McHugh (5 innings), Michael Powers (3 innings) and Sage (2.1 innings) then held the GreenJackets in check until the 18th.

The 18-inning game was the longest for the Gnats since becoming a Mets affiliate at the beginning of the 2007 season.
