Mets Attendence, Field Of Dreams, Update – Mets 1st Pick, Reese Havens... and 2011 Mets Salaries

Mets Attendence:

A year after moving into a sparkling new $800 million stadium, the Mets have the most home victories in the major leagues, but neither their stadium nor their record is translating into box-office success. After 22 home games, attendance at Citi Field is down 6,852 fans a game, the largest decline by number in Major League Baseball. That translates to an average of 31,892 fans at games this season compared with 38,744 last season. - link

Field Of Dreams:

In "Field of Dreams," Kevin Costner's character builds a baseball diamond out of a corn field after a voice tells him: "If you build it, he will come." Well, now he can buy it and so can anyone else. Don and Becky Lansing, the owners of the site near Dyersville where the field was built by Universal Studios, said Thursday they're selling the property. The asking price is $5.4 million. The Lansing family property used in the movie 'Field of Dreams" is now for sale. The couple said they love the land, which has been in Don Lansing's family for more than a century, but they're ready to retire and give up the property. - link

Update – Mets 1st Pick:

Five more mock drafts have come in, changing the top seven players in the upcoming draft. The big news is RHP Anthony Renaudo, a new Jersey native and Mets favorite, is not on this list. He started out the season ranked second behind C Bryce Harper; however, injuries and bad pitching has decreased his stock in the draft.

Right now Harper remains first, followed by LHP Drew Pomeranz, RHP Jamerson Taillon, RHP Deck McGwire, RHP A.J. Cole, and SS Manny Machado.

The Met would pick next, and right now, the 7th overall pick is LHP Chris Sale, followed closely by 3B Zach Cox.

Reese Havens:

Since 2001, 32 players have been drafted as shortstops in the first round of the draft. 2008 - 22nd Overall - Reese Havens, College: Havens, a solid hitter with outstanding plate discipline, wasn't really considered likely to stick at short in the pros; his lack of range led most to believe he'd end up at 2nd or 3rd. He has pretty much lived up to his billing so far, with a career minor league OBP of .357 and OPS of .796 and borderline defense at short. In his nine defensive starts in 2010, Havens has played second base, where his range plays better. - link
