6-7-12 - Daily Mets Minors Report

Date: 6-7-12

I’ve been off-line most of the day but I’ll try to catch up now that it is game time.

Mets:
18th Top Hitter in Draft - 18. Purdue JR C Kevin Plawecki: tremendous approach, as good as any hitter in this year’s college class; still a raw defender, but above-average tools are there; average arm, but it plays up due to much improved footwork and a quick release; good athlete; above-average hit tool; hits consistent line drives tony and makes a ton of contact; like the power, but others aren’t solid his swing will allow for much more than gap power – I think there’s 20 homer upside here; there was some question heading into the year, but will definitely stick behind plate; uses the whole field well as a hitter; high marks for all things intangible; given the choice between Zunino in the first or Plawecki later, I’d wait it out and grab Purdue’s backstop who might have more long-term upside; 6-2, 210 pounds BDR

The Mets have agreed to terms with first-round pick (12th overall) Gavin Cecchini, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

Former Palm Beach State pitcher Brandon Welch signed with the New York Mets on Thursday. Welch, a Palm Beach Gardens alum, was taken in the fifth round (170th overall) by the Mets on Tuesday. “It’s awesome,” Welch said. “I’ve been waiting my whole life for this.”

Fernando Martinez's Astros career is off to a 1-for-13 start

AAA – Buffalo:
SS Sean Kazmar came into the game still looking for his first AAA-Buffalo hit (0-12, .00)… weird lineup without Josh Satin… RP Manny Acosta (1.1-IP) looked good tonight in his first outing since reporting…

AA-Binghamton:

Boy, I’m just not sure anymore who is more ready for AAA, Collin McHugh or Zack Wheeler…  final line -  7.0IP 2H 0ER 4BB 7K (104 pitches, 61 strikes), 1.66…-  Juan Lagares’ bat beginning annual heat up… Adrian Rosario continued his 0.00 AA ERA…

A+ - St. Lucie: -

It’s rare that St. Lucie even trails in a game; however, SP Angel Cuan gave up three runs in the first two innings… RF Cory Vaughn (you remember him) hit his 11th home run (.236)… Blake Forsythe (.274) and Frankie Pena (.265) seems to be splitting duties lately at C and DH… Cuan got chased early: 5.1-IP, 6-H, 3-R, 5-K, 0-BB. 2.50… bats were pretty quiet tonight… only three hits, two by Pena… pitchers combined for nine strikeouts.

A – Savannah:
T.J. Chism, T.J. Rivera, and Travis Taijeron have been named to the SAL all-star team.
Game one was an excellent pitching duel between Tyler Anderson (4-0, 3.48) and Rafael Montero (6.0-IP, 6-H, 2-ER,4-K, 1-BB, 2.48).
Game two: SP Michael Fulmer got hit early… bats finally woke up in the third inning…
