Mets 2012 Draft Signings and Agreements

Just a few days after the draft ended and the Mets are off to a nice start with their signings and agreements to sign.

So far: (Round-Player-Source-Notes)

1- SS Gavin Cecchini- Adam Rubin, Metsblog, others- Signed for 250k under slot recommendation.

1s- C Kevin Plawecki- Michael Pointer/Indystar- Agreement to sign within a few days (no word yet on bonus but my guess would be under slot by 100-200k).

2- 3B/IF Matt Reynolds- MetsMinorLeagueBlog- Not official yet, focusing on playoff baseball.

3- RHP Teddy Stankiewicz- Matt Jones (The Slophouse)- "Expected to sign"

4- SS/2B Branden Kaupe- Maui News- Branden told a Maui newspaper that he will sign next week.

8- C Thomas Nido- His Twitter.

Opinion- This was the mid-round pick I really wanted the Mets to get. Fantastic young player and a steal for the Mets in the 8th round. VERY happy he has decided to join the Mets family.

12- RHP Robert Whalen- Twitter- Already signed.

14- RHP Chris Flexen- Rumored on Twitter by friend of Chris'- The word is Flexen will sign for 375k which is 275k OVER slot.

Opinion- The money saved early with Cecchini (and likely Plawecki) is used here to sign away a fringe top-100 prospect who scared teams away because of what was considered a strong college commitment and high bonus demands. For those who wondered why the Mets seemed to take a conservative approach in the early stages of the draft, this is likely why. A great signing here in the 14th round. This year's Philip Evans (top talent in a late round). This is a kid throwing in the low-90s with a good slider already.

17- C Stefan Sabol- MetsMinorLeagueBlog- "Very likely sign", according to Toby Hyde

22- RHP Tejay Antone- Twitter- Likely based on his tweets of late.

NOT signing:

Conner Baits- RHP- 23rd round
Jacob Marks- RHP- 28th round
Austin Barr- C- 29th round (Opinion: Barr was never supposed to sign. He would have been a second round selection or higher. Mets took a gamble in the low rounds and it would have been a shock if Barr reached an agreement with any team drafting him this late).
Benny Distefano- C- 37th round
David Gonzalez- RHP- 40th round

Stephen- White won't sign, either; however, I've heard that Barr, quite possibly, WILL sign, depending upon not only what the team's offer is, but where he's going to play. I know he has a scholarship to Stanford, but supposedly there's still slim hope. We should know more on Monday or Tuesday...fingers remain crossed!

"where he's going to play" meaning which position? Or which level (Brooklyn, Savannah etc.)?
