Thunder Shock B-Mets in Tenth, 3-2


TRENTON,NJ – The Binghamton Mets were one out away from securing their first roadseries sweep of the season, but Shane Brown ripped a two-run single in thebottom of the tenth to give the Trenton Thunder a 3-2 walk-off victory Sundayafternoon at Waterfront Park.

Aftertaking the lead in the top of the tenth on a throwing error by third basemanJose Pirela, the B-Mets looked to Adrian Rosario to lock down the save. The rightyrecorded two quick outs before Zoilo Almonte dumped a single to right. AfterMelky Mesa walked, Rosario uncorked a wild pitch, allowing both runners toadvance. Brown followed by ripping a 2-0 pitch into left for the game-winner.

Forthe eighth straight game, the B-Mets plated the first run. Matt den Dekker ledoff the fourth inning with a double against starter Brett Marshall. He moved tothird on a groundout and scored when Marshall unleashed a wild pitch.

Itwas the only run Marshall allowed in the game. The righty gave up just fivehits and struck out a season-high nine B-Mets over six innings of work.Binghamton matched a season-high by striking out 13 times.

B-Metsstarter Greg Peavey labored through five innings in the no-decision. The rightydealt with at least one runner in each of his frames. After navigating throughfour scoreless, Peavey allowed his only run in the fifth. Jeff Farnham led offwith a single and scored three batters later on a sac fly by David Adams.

Thegame remained tied at one through nine innings thanks to strong bullpen work.Armando Rodriguez took over for Peavey and struck out four over three scorelessinnings. Brad Holt navigated around a one-out double to post a shutout ninth. PrestonClaiborne held the fort down for Trenton in the seventh and eighth withscoreless innings.

LeeHyde pitched a perfect ninth before his defense failed him in the tenth. JuanLagares started the inning with a single and moved to second on sac bunt. JoeBonfe followed by sending a chopper to third. Pirela fielded cleanly, but firedan errant throw to first, allowing Lagares to score from second. Pirelacommitted another error on the next play, but was bailed out when Pedro Zapatabounced into an inning-ending double play.

Rosario(0-1) was saddled with his first loss and first blown save as a B-Met. The runsallowed snapped an 8.1 inning scoreless streak to start the righty’s Double-Acareer. Hyde (2-1) earned his second win. The loss snapped Binghamton’sthree-game winning streak and dropped them back to one game under .500.

TheB-Mets (29-30) enjoy an off day Monday before starting a three-game seriesagainst the Reading Phillies on Tuesday night at 6:35 PM.
