You know how these showcases work. Someone comes along and sits in the 91-94 range, everyone at PG tweets about them, and all of a sudden we have a new pitcher going up the mocks. Saturday, Feb 9th it was Parkway South HS (MO) LHP Jake Brentz who wowed them at the 2013 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Up until then, only one mock (Sully) had him listed at all and that was at the 95th slot. Watch what happens now.
Right behind Brentz will be Westbury HS (TX) RHP, 5-11 Andrew Dunlap, who topped off at 96 at the same showcase. I don’t have Dunlap listed anywhere, though PG grades him at a ‘10’, with a 7.08-60, an 88-C, and a 1.83 Pop.
The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced that they would have a record 105 baseball games broadcast on either regular television or ESPN3. One school, Georgia Tech, will be chosen for 29 of these games. It’s a school record and a big reason why high school seniors like Adrean High School (IN) RHP and www.macksmets.blogspot.com writer, Zac Ryan, has verbally committed to the Yellow Jackets. GT is currently ranked 12th pre-season and goes into the season with draft prospects IF Mott Hyde, OF Brandon Thomas, RHP Buck Farmer, and OF Daniel Palka. Other ACC teams with impressive amounts of televised games and draft prospects are Florida State (28 – SS Justin Gonzalez), NC State (23 – 2014 top prospects LHP Carlos Rodon, IF Trea Turner) and North Carolina (18 – 3B Colin Moran).
