MM's Top 25- #10 SS Gavin Cecchini

A poll of our Mack Mets writers was conducted to compile a site wide Mets Organizational Top 25 Prospects. All statistical information is provided by Baseball-Reference.com. Scouting reports may include information from outside sources such as Baseball America.

A full listing of our Top 25 Prospects is on the right hand side of our website.Without further ado....The Mack's Mets #10 organizational prospect is......

#10 SS Gavin Cecchini
Bats: R Throws: R
Height: 6' 2" Weight: 180 lb
Acquired: 2012 draft, 1st round, Alfred M. Barbe High School

2012: (R/SS-A) .240/.307/.321, 1 HR, 22 RBI, 5 SB (55%), 18 BB, 44 K

Sandy's low risk, low reward 1st rounder last year show some flashes of why scouts see him as a "true SS prospect." Gavin was defensively sound committing only 5 errors in 53 games for Kingsport, showed the ability to turn a quick double play (14  in 2012), decent gap power, and above average speed. He's not going to wow you in any aspect of the game but he possesses above average in every aspect which is why Alderson drafted him. At 18, Gavin of course showed that he still has lots to learn and is indeed raw but the Mets did give him $2.3MM for a reason. Lets see how he does in Brooklyn before we start making more assumptions.

Anticipated Assignment: (SS-A) Brooklyn Cyclones starting SS

Cecchini is a talented player and worthy of a first day pick, but this was all about signability not "best player available.

Scouts already have him projected to 2B, but that usually doesn't happen until later on up the affiliate chain. Teams want their prospects to concentrate on hitting, not playing new positions.

I've got him at SS in Savannah.

We'll see.

Savannah would be quite the jump...especially Since Kingsport was tough on him.

I agree, but he would slot in there perfectly.

Just a feeling.
