Brooklyn 8 - Jamestown 1

mets - jared king

The Cyclones had everything go their way on Friday night, beating the Jamestown Jammers by a decisive score of 8-1. Jared King played a big part in the Cyclones offensive explosion, driving in four runs. Patrick Biondi contributed going 4-5 with an RBI triple. The pitching performance by Miller Diaz was once again outstanding, who now has five consecutive starts of allowing two earned runs or less through at least five innings.

Diaz tossed six innings, allowed just two hits, one run , and struck out eight to pick up his fourth win of the season. His offense supported him greatly, getting on the board early in the first inning. The Cyclones scored four in the first, three in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Jonathan Clark led the game off with a single, and Biondi followed with an infield single putting runners at first and second for L.J. Mazzilli. Mazzilli advanced the runners to second and third on a groundball out to second base. King then got his first of his four RBI on a ground out to second base, scoring Clark. After an RBI single from Alex Sanchez on a groundball to left field, Gavin Cecchini  got into the mix with a two RBI single, giving the Cyclones a 4-0 lead after one.

The Cyclones struck again in the top of the fourth for three runs, all thanks to a bases clearing double by King. Clark got a one out walk to get on first, and Biondi added another single to set up Mazzilli. Mazzilli walked though, and King made the most of the opportunity by hitting a line drive double to left field, extending the Cyclones lead to 7-1. Brooklyn added another run in the fifth on an RBI triple by Biondi, making it 8-1 Cyclones.

In relief of Diaz, Kevin McGowan pitched a scoreless three innings to help seal the deal. McGowan picks up his third save of the year and lowers his ERA to 2.81
