Mets Minor League Report – August 12

 

MML Player of the Day - Aug. 12: St. Lucie 2B T.J. Tivera.  

New Orleans (61-62) tops Las Vegas (65-56) 12-9.

Starter Giancarlo Alvarado (L, ) was rocked, lasting only 2.0 innings: 6 R, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 K.
Ditto Jack Leathersich: 2.0 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 6 K. Leather Jack is still a strikeout machine, but with each stop up the minor league ladder his command has deteriorated. Until he shows he can keep runners off the base paths, he will not see the show. The thin air of Las Vegas doesn’t agree with many pitchers, but I think Leather will be repeating here next year.

Travis d‘Arnaud: 3-5, HR, 2B, 3 RBI, R.
Ruben Tejada: 2-4, 2B, BB, 2 RBI, 2 R.
Matt den Dekker: 1-2, HR, 3 RBI, R

St Lucie (63-49) rips Palm Beach (55-60) 8-4

A solid start for Michael Fulmer, except for the walks: 6.0 IP, R, 2 H, 4 BB, 8 K. In 30.2 IP for St. Lucie this year, Fulmer has walked 16. (4.70 BB/9) That’s just too much. Last year with Savannah, Fulmer’s BB/9 was 3.16.
Angel Cuan, who has been moved to the pen with St. Lucie, got rocked: 1.0 IP. 3 R, 6 H, 0 BB, K.
Bret Mitchell pitched the final 2.0 innings: 0 R, H, BB, K.

Kyle Johnson: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R.
T.J. Rivera: 3-3, HR, BB, 4 RBI, R.

Princeton (14-36) @ Kingsport (29-20) postponed (rain).

 

GCL Marlins (18-27) nips GCL Mets (14-31) 2-1.

Octavio Acosta (L, 1-2) took the loss: 6.0 IP, 2 R, 8 H, (HR) BB, 6 K.

DominIck Smith, 2-3, scored the run. Wuilmer Becerra, 1-4, had the RBI.

 

DSL Nationals (32-27) slam DSL Mets1 (19-41) 5-0.

Miguel Gutierrez (L, 0-3) did not pitch badly, although he is walking far too many in his first pro season: 2.2 IP. 3 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 5 BB, 2 K.

No standouts among the position players.

 

DSL Mets2 (38-23) squash DSL Yankees (13-48) 9-0, game completed early (rain).

Kevin Canelon (W, 5-2) pitched 5.0 scoreless innings: 4 H, 2 BB, 8 K.

SS Alfredo Reyes: 2-2, 2B, BB, RBI, R. The 19 year old Reyes has blossomed in his 3rd year in the DSL, hitting ,317.
