DOWN UNDER: Mets Minor League Results - 7-22-15

STAR OF THE DAY: GCL Mets in a big come-from-behind effort.  Michael Fulmer rocks.  Jared King slams.

HONORABLE MENTION: Gavin Cecchini with 4 hits.

 SCORES:

Las Vegas (56-42) 4 - Fresno 12

Binghamton  (53-43) 9 - New Britain 5

St Lucie  - postponed

Savannah (49-46) 3  - Hagerstown 4

Brooklyn  (18-13) 1 - W. Va. 8

Kingsport (13-14) 5 - Pulaski 6

GCL Mets (16-11) 7 - Nats 4

DSL - see below.

SUMMARIES:

Las Vegas sent Darin Gorski to the hill in Fresno.  OUCH! He surrendered 7 runs in 5 innings, despite 8 Ks. Bullpen let in 5 more.  Jayce Boyd 2 doubles, 2 RBIs.

Binghamton's Michael Fulmer and friends had them singing "9 to 5, what a way to make a living." Fulmer tossed 5 innings of 6 hit ball, no walks, 9 Ks, and many scouts drooling. The pen allowed the 5 opponent runs.

Jared King pinch hit for Fulmer and hit a grand slam to ice the sucker. Earlier, Xorge Carillo and Josh Rodriguez (15) hit 2 run shots.

But wait, there's more: blazing hot Gavin Cecchini (4-5, .310) and Michael Conforto (2-4, BB, .321) joined the fun.

St Lucie was postponed.  No Sun, no fun.

Savannah's Michael Gibbons has had better nights, allowing 10 hits (including 2 long balls) and 4 runs in 5.1 innings.  Luis Guillorme's 2 hits got him back up to .300.

Brooklyn was out of this one early.  Matt Blackman did not have it at all tonight, and 5 Cyclone errors did not help at all, nor did another weak night of Cyclones hitting.

One EXTREME bright spot was Luis Mateo throwing 3 innings of scoreless, one hit, 3 strikeout ball. I'm hoping he startles everyone and is a September call up for the Mets.  He has been lights out in his 8 rehab innings so far.

Kingsport starter Harol Gonzalez got roughed up for 3 runs in the first, but tossed 4 scoreless after that. Merandy Gonzalez gave up 3 ninth inning runs to blow a 5-3 lead.

The Kingsport Krash trio (Winningham, Mazelka, and Kazsmarski) had solid offensive nights again.  Luis Ortega was 3 for 3 and a walk. Ivan Wilson struck out each of his 4 times up.

GCL Mets trailed 4-0 entering the 8th. But one in the 8th and SIX IN THE 9TH pulled out a big win.  Ain't over til it's over in the minors, friends.  The majors? Well....

DSL METS 1 (23-18) - Red Sox : details not yet posted.

DSL METS 2 (23-21) - Twins : Oddly, there are two Luis Mateos in the Mets system.  The younger oone ook the loss despite not pitching badly as the starter for the Mets.

The Mets exploded for 4 in the 7th...but that was after the Twins piled up seven 7th inning runs off 2 Mets relievers. So a 2-1 game after 6 was a 9-5 game an inning later.

GOAT: Ivan Wilson can't seem to make contact. Not joking, I wonder if he can pitch?  Darin Gorski also wears GOAT horns.  Matt Blackman, too.
