DOWN UNDER: Mets Minor League Results - 7-17-15

STAR OF THE DAY: Adonis Uceta, Jeff Diehl

HONORABLE MENTION: Cyclones bullpen (yes, again), Gavin Cecchini

SCORES (six wins in 9 contests):

Las Vegas (55-38)  4 -  Albuquerque  2

Binghamton  (48-43) 6 - Trenton 3

St Lucie (47-44)  3 - Dunedin 10

Savannah (46-44) 2 - Charleston 6

Brooklyn (16-10) 4 - Staten Island 3

Kingsport  (12-11) 7 - Princeton 4

GCL Mets (13-10)  5 - Marlins 0

DSL METS 1 (20-21)  5 - Orioles 2

DSL METS 2 (24-17) 5  - Yankees 6

Las Vegas: PCL Pitcher of the Week Darin Gorski took the hill tonite and the lefty continued his Jon Niese imitation, lowering his ERA to 4.65 with 5 solid IP, improving to 8-6.

5 relievers (Terry Collins approves) nailed down the close win.  Dilson Herrera had 2 hits and scored twice. All Star Taijeron had 2 hits and an RBI.

Binghamton's John Gant - who says "Gant can't", the Man Can - won tonight and K'd 7 in 6 strong innings.

Gavin Cecchini (.298) did NOT go on the DL, and had 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Sweet.

"Call me up, please" Michael Conforto (.315) had 2 hits, including his 11th AA double already.  Jon Velasquez (2.41) struck out 3 in the 9th for his 12th save.

St Lucie: Rob Whelan started for the Lucies and he and Mr. Jannis turned it into "High Five" night, as each allowed 5 runs to Dunedin in this blowout loss.  Mr. Jeff McNeil had 2 more hits in the loss.

Savannah - the Oswalt not named Roy pitched for the Mets and was back to being eminently hittable, allowing 11 hits in 4 innings.  A bright spot was Wuilmer Becerra going 3 (singles) for 4.

Brooklyn came into the game after losing 5 of 6 after its 14-5 start, in large part due to low offensive output.

Tonight,  a win.  Kevin Canelon allowed 3 runs in 4.1 innings, but then Staten Island shuddered...they had to face 4 Brooklyn pen guys with a combined ERA of 0.20.

4.2 innings, no runs and 9 Ks later, the Cyclones had their one run win and Alex Palsha (ERA 0.00) had his 6th save.

Offensively, David Thompson was on 3 times (.271) and so was Jeff Diehl (.291), including a 2 run bomb.

Kingsport 's Tom McIraith started for the first time in his minor league career after 3 scoreless relief appearances. Staked to a 4-0 first inning lead, he allowed 2 runs in 6 innings for the win.  Dash "Crash" Winningham was 3-5, 2 doubles, and 2 more RBIs (19). Exciting.

Ivan Wilson had a hit but 4 more Ks. Raphael Ramirez, the other K-prone K Met, struck out twice.

GCL Mets' Adonis Uceta was dy--no-mite, with 7 scoreless innings. JC Medina pitched a scoreless 8th.

18 year old "Lockdown" Max Wotell tossed a perfect 9th. The high draftee, who has had that nickname ever since I came up with it 30 seconds ago, has allowed 1 hit in 3 relief innings, no walks, 6 Ks since turning pro.  He can't miss!

A scoreless game was broken open with 5 Mets runs in the 6th and 7th.

DSL METS 2:  their line was 5-8-1. The Yanks rallied for 5 late runs to win 6-5.

DSL METS 1: their line was also 5-8-1. The Orioles did not rally so they won.

 GOAT: Roy Oswalt
