DOWN UNDER: Mets Minor League Results - 7-28-15

Late losses in Brooklyn and Kingsport prevented a clean sweep.

STAR OF THE DAY: The Michaels starred tonight.  Fulmer is flat out firing and Katz is flat out clubbing lately.

HONORABLE MENTION: Dash Winningham with a grand slam, ma'am, but just 1 for 6. Also Dillon Gee and thundering 51's bats.

 SCORES:

Las Vegas (59-45) 14 - Sacramento 2

Binghamton (56-46) 3 - New Britain 0

St Lucie (51-50)  8 - Daytona 4

Savannah (54-47) 8 - Greensboro 6

Brooklyn  (19-17)  3 - Hudson Valley 4, 10 innings

Kingsport (17-17) 9 - Pulaski 15

GCL Mets (17-14) - Nationals.  METS RAINED OUT AGAIN

DSL METS 1 (25-24) 7 - Rojos (Spanish for Reds) 3

DSL METS 2 (29-20) 2 - Braves  1

Here's the Scoop:

Las Vegas trotted out Dillon Gee (4-1, 6.35). He was excellent, tossing a 99 pitch, complete game 7 hitter in a 14-2 blow out  He's ready to return or be traded.

Travis Taijeron drilled a bases clearing double in the 1st inning and singled in the 4th run in the 3rd inning. Then K'd 3 times. Ceciliani (.343) has returned from the DL very hot, with 3 more hits and 3 RBIs.  Brandon Nimmo's AAA inaugural went nicely: hit, 2 walks, RBI.  Muno, Herrera on 3 times each. Gee even walked twice.

Binghamton's Michael Fulmer came out tonight with the intent to conquer colonial power New Britain.  And conquer the Brits he did.  Six innings, 3 hits, no walks, 9 Ks. 1.88 ERA.  LOOKING TOTALLY READY FOR THE BIGS.

And GREAT RELIEF pitching...Velasquez, Walters, and the incomparable Sewald pitch an inning apiece while striking out 5.  Sewald lowered his ERA to 1.51 and recorded his 16th save. Is Paul major league ready too?

d'Arnaud went 1-4.  Cecchini got a hit and BB also (.302).

St Lucie entered the night with a 50-50 record and a 50-50 chance of having a winning record by game's end.  Mickey Jannis started and won his first for St Lucie, tossing 8 innings and allowing just 2 earned runs.

Matt Oberste and Yeixon Ruiz stayed hot with 2 hits each (Matt and Stefan Sabol went deep).  And Dom Smith (.295) singled and doubled and drove in 3 (58 for the season).

Savannah's Michael Gibbons  came in hoping for his first win as a Gnat against lowly Greensboro. He got it, but surrendered 4 runs and 11 hits.  Montgomery was off again, but Cameron Griffin, who's relieved well this year for the Gnats, nabbed his 5th save in as many chances.

Seven run 2nd inning for the Gnats.  Michael Friggin' Katz had a 3 run homer and has 4 homers and 14 RBIs in his last 5 games.  Holy Gnats, Batman.

Wuilmer Becerra (.295) added 2 hits and 2 RBIs, and friggin' hot John Mora added his 5th homer and a BB.

Brooklyn headed up to Hudson Valley in hopes of revving up their offensive game. That did not happen, as they lost 4-3 in 10, but a very encouraging outing from Chris Flexen: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 BB, EIGHT K's!

Kingsport visited Pulaski last night which they tell me is somewhere near Podunk and Peoria.  Admiring Savannah's 7 run 2nd inning, the K Mets did the same darned thing. Amazing.

But Pulaski outdid them with a 9 run 8th to overcome the K Mets' 9-5 lead.

A Dash Winningham grand slam, his 6th HR, boosts him to 25 RBIs.  Ivan Wilson was hit by a pitch and later left the game. Tom McIlraith started and threw 3 innings of 1 run ball, with 3 BBs and 2 Ks.

But the K Met hurlers embraced the walk, issuing FIFTEEN walks in 8 innings!

GCL's Mets we're to take on the lowly Nationals today. Instead, they took on water and we're rained out. Again.

DSL METS 2: Misael Familia (1.48) with his 5th save.

DSL METS 1: the other Luis Mateo threw 6 nice innings, allowing 3 runs, to secure his 2nd win.

 GOATS: see below.

Jenrry Mejia...only one GOAT in the Mets organization tonight.  He'll be a goat for the next 365 days.

But the K Met hurlers walking almost as many hitters (15) tonight as Gabe Ynoa did in 22 starts in 2013 (16) earns them GOAT horns as well.

Katz is on an unbelievable streak right now - Bucerrera has the team lead with 8 HRS, all year -Katz has 5 in a month - he showed real power in college

Hey Lee: Michael Katz is not just on a streak....he's got 33 RBIs in 33 games. That is VERY intriguing. He does seem like he can crush the long ball? All right.

Lew, not Lee!
