July 22nd 2015 -- Nationals 4, Mets 3

Wednesday afternoon the Nats scored 3 times in the bottom of the 8th inning as they come from behind to beat the Mets 4-3.Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and due to a high pitch count left after 5 innings. In the top of the 4th Ruben Tejada and Daniel Murphy singled. Then with 1st and 2nd the resurgent Kirk Nieuwenhuis doubled in the left field gap scoring both for a 2-0 lead.  Kevin Plawecki followed with an RBI single to right to make it 3-0.  In the bottom of the 4th the Nat’s scored their only run against Thor.  Ian Desmond singled and stole 2nd, former Met Matt den Dekker walked and Desmond came home on a RBI single by Michael Taylor.  Hansel Robles and Jenrry Mejia held the Nats in the 6th and 7th. In the 8th the Nats broke through for 3 runs beating up on Bobby Parnell.  Taylor came through with a 2 run single to tie the game.  Danny Espinosa’s RBI double scored Taylor to give the Nats the late lead.  Syndergaard went 5 allowing 5 hits the 1 run (earned) he walked 5 and struck out 4. Parnell takes the loss in his first misstep since returning from Tommy John Surgery. Parnell allowed 3 runs on 3 hits walking 2 and striking out 1. Parnell is now 0-1.  Matt Thornton gets the win in relieve improving to 1-0. Drew Storen pitched the 9th for his 29th save.  Taylor went 2 for 5 with 3 RBI for Washington, Daniel Murphy went 2 for 4 for the Mets. With the loss the Mets drop 2 of 3 from the Nats in Washington. They return to 3  games behind in 2nd place in the NL East. Overall they are 49-46 on the year, 17-32 on the road.  Thursday the Mets are back home at Citi Field to start a 4 games series against the Dodgers.  Thursday night Bartolo Colon (9-8 4.86) goes for the Mets,  Clayton Kershaw  (7-6 2.68) goes for Los Angeles.

A team that always seems to find a way to lose just as you get your hopes up. Awful.

Ouch that was a punch in the gut. I don't know if you could really get around that 8th inning. The bullpen's been solid overall so I guess we were due but this one really hurts no doubt. Having said that we're still very much in this thing and it should be very interesting to see just what the front office does from now until the 31st
