Monday night in Washington D.C., the Nationals scored 5
times off Matt Harvey in the first 3 innings and that’s all they needed as they
go on to beat the Mets 7-2. The
Nationals scored twice in the bottom of the 1st and 3 times in the
bottom of the 3rd to take a 5-0 lead. In that third leading 2-0
Clint Robinson doubled in a pair to make it 4-0. An infield single by Ian
Desmond scored Robinson to make it 5-0.
In the top of the 4th Matt Harvey mustered all the offense
the Mets would show on the night as he blooped a single into left with the
bases loaded scoring Eric Campbell and Juan Lagares and it was 5-2. In the
bottom of the 8th Alex Torres yielded a 2 run homer to Desmond, his
8th on the year to cap the scoring.
Harvey got roughed up early but settled down retiring the last 14
batters to face him. He goes 7 innings allowing 5 hits 5 runs (4 earned) while
walking 4 and striking out 3. He takes the loss falling to 8-7. His opponent Gio
Gonzalez lasted 6 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 runs. With the win he improves
to 7-4. The Met offense managed 9 hits on the night, 7 singles and 2
doubles. Juan Lagares led the way going
2 for 4. With the loss the Mets drop a
full game to the Nationals and are now 3
games out of 1st in the NL
East. Overall the Mets are 48-45 and 16-31 on the road. Tuesday night it’s game two of the series.
