July 20th 2015 -- Nationals 7, Mets 2

Monday night in Washington D.C., the Nationals scored 5 times off Matt Harvey in the first 3 innings and that’s all they needed as they go on to beat the Mets 7-2.  The Nationals scored twice in the bottom of the 1st and 3 times in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 5-0 lead. In that third leading 2-0 Clint Robinson doubled in a pair to make it 4-0. An infield single by Ian Desmond scored Robinson to make it 5-0.  In the top of the 4th Matt Harvey mustered all the offense the Mets would show on the night as he blooped a single into left with the bases loaded scoring Eric Campbell and Juan Lagares and it was 5-2. In the bottom of the 8th Alex Torres yielded a 2 run homer to Desmond, his 8th on the year to cap the scoring.  Harvey got roughed up early but settled down retiring the last 14 batters to face him. He goes 7 innings allowing 5 hits 5 runs (4 earned) while walking 4 and striking out 3. He takes the loss falling to 8-7. His opponent Gio Gonzalez lasted 6 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 runs. With the win he improves to 7-4. The Met offense managed 9 hits on the night, 7 singles and 2 doubles.  Juan Lagares led the way going 2 for 4. With the loss  the Mets drop a full game to the Nationals and  are now 3 games out of 1st  in the NL East. Overall the Mets are 48-45 and 16-31 on the road.  Tuesday night it’s game two of the series. Jacob deGrom (9-6 2.14) goes for the Mets.  The Nats pitcher is TBA.
