DOWN UNDER: Mets Minor League Playoff Recap - Tom Brennan
As previously noted, Kingsport lost its opening playoff round 2 games to 1, and the two other Mets Minors playoff teams, Binghamton and Savannah, trailed their series 0-1.
On Friday night, there was one winner and one loser. Gnaturally.
BINGHAMTON:
Rob Gsellman, coming off a rough start, got the nod. He was again very hittable, allowing 2 runs on 9 hits in 4.1 IP.
Offensively, a double by LJ and a double by TJ, and a single by Amed Rosario, was it.
Not nearly enough. A 3-0 loss, and now down 0-2 in the best-of-five.
Savannah:
The Gnats played on Friday night. Another loss would lead to its quick elimination. The Gnats made sure that wouldn't happen, scoring 7 in the first. 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and 3 RBIs for Jon Johnson, 2 hits for Eudor and Wuilmer, and 2 hits and 3 RBIs from Jean Rodriguez led the way to 9 runs and 13 hits.
Starter Ricky Knapp was zoned in, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits for the 9-2 win. Luis Mateo and Al Baldonado each tossed a scoreless inning and fanned a batter to secure the win.
Looking ahead:
Binghamton plays game 3 of its best-of-5 series Saturday. If Bingo wins this round, a best of 5 championship round is next. Lose Saturday, go home.
On Saturday, Savannah (1-1) is scheduled for its game 3 in a series that is a best of 3. If they proceed out of this round, another best of 3, then a 5 game championship round. Lose Saturday? Head home.
