Tuesday night at Citi Field, the Braves scored 4 times in
the top of the 4th inning as they go on to beat the Mets 6-2. Logan Verrett was the starter for the Mets
and he got an early 1-0 in the bottom of the first courtesy of David Wright.
The Mets captain hit an opposite field solo homer his 4th on the
year. In the top of the 5th the Braves scored 4 times taking control
of the game. Jace Peterson led the inning off with a solo homer, his 6th
on the year tying the game at 1. Michael
Bourn then reached on an infield single and was sacrificed to 2nd.
Nick Markakis was intentionally walked to get to Hector Olivera who prompted
crushed a 3 run homer, his 2nd on the year to make it 4-1. In the 8th the Mets loaded the
bases. Curtis Granderson walked, Wright singled to center. Yoenis Cespedes
walked and Michael Cuddyer hit a sac-fly to make it 4-2. In the 9th Adonis Garcia hit a
pinch-hit 2 run double off Tyler Clippard to make it 6-2. Verrett left after 5,
allowing 5 hits, 4 runs (earned), walking 1 and striking out 3. Matt Wisler went 7 strong allowing 5 hits, 2
runs walking 1 and striking out 8. Wisler gets the win improving to 6-8.
Verrett takes the loss falling to 1-2. Sean Gilmartin pitched 2 scoreless in relief
for the Mets. Wright and Daniel Murphy
had 2 hits apiece in the game. Murphy hit a pair of doubles giving him 226
career doubles as a Met, passing Ed Kranepool for 2nd place the Mets
all-time list. (David Wright leads all-time with 381.) With the loss the Mets overall
record now stands at 85-66 and they are 48-29 at home. The Orioles beat the
Nationals on Tuesday so the Met lead in the NL East stays at 6 ½ games and the
Magic number is now 6. Wednesday night it’s the final game of this three game
set. Bartolo Colon (14-12 4.15) goes for
the Mets, Williams Perez (6-6 5.16) goes for Atlanta.
