Tuesday night at Citi Field the Marlins got to Jacob deGrom
for 6 runs in 5 innings, the Mets 8 game winning streak comes to an end with a
9-3 loss. The Mets took at 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Curtis
Granderson singled; Yoenis Cespedes was hit by a pitch. Daniel Murphy grounded
out to place runners on 2nd and 3rd for David Wright who doubled
to right scoring Granderson. Michael Conforto walked to load the bases, but
Miami starter and winner Tim Koehler retired Travis d’Arnaud and Lucas Duda to
escape the inning without further damage. The game stayed 1-0 until the top of
the 4th when the Marlins scored three times against deGrom on 4
straight hits. Christian Yelich and
Martin Prado singled. Justin Bour doubled
home Yelich. Marcel Ozuna singled home Prado.
J.T. Realmuto capped the rally with a sac-fly. In the 5th 4 more hits, 3 more
runs against deGrom. Yelich had an RBI double; Prado had a sac-fly and Bour an
RBI single. In the top of the 7th
Miguel Rojas singled and advanced to 2nd against Erik Goeddel. Eric O’Flaherty came in an allowed a single
by Dee Gordon and a run came home on a ground out by Yelich that was charged to
Goeddel. In the bottom of the 8th the Mets got back on the board;
Wright singled, Conforto doubled and Wright came home on a ground out to short
by d’Arnaud. Ruben Tejada singled home Conforto for the Mets 3rd
run. In the top of the 9th
against Dario Alvarez, Dee Gordon capped off the win for Miami with a 2 run
homer, his 3rd of the year to make it 9-3. Gordon led the way for
the Fish going 4 for 5. Christian Yelich and Justin Bour had 3 hits. Conforto and Tejada had 2 hits apiece for the
Mets. deGrom lasted the 5 innings allowing 10 hits, 6 runs (all earned) and
struck out 5 taking the loss falling to 13-8; Koehler gets the win improving to
10-13. With the loss the Mets fall to 83-62 on the year. They are 46-25 at Citi
Field. The Nationals beat the Phillies 4-0 so the Met lead in the NL East falls
to 8 ½ games. Wednesday night is the rubber game of this series. Bartolo Colon (14-11 4.13) goes for win # 15.
Lefty Adam Conley (3-1 4.93) goes for Miami.
