September 13th 2015 -- Mets 10, Braves 7 (10 Innings)

Sunday afternoon in Atlanta Daniel Murphy hit a 3 run homer with two out in the top of the 9th to tie the game at 7 and Kirk Nieuwenhuis scored on a error in the top of the 10th inning to put the Mets in the lead for good, the Mets win their 7th straight with a 10-7 come from behind win against the Braves. The Mets gave Jonathon Niese an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd. Jose Uribe singled and Michael Conforto hit a line 2 run homer to right, his 7th on the year. Niese was being hit fairly well in the early going. In the bottom of the third the Braves tied the game.  Nick Markakis and Daniel Castro singled. Garcia singled home Markakis. Andrelton Simmons then singled home Castro to tie the game at 2.  The Braves took a 3-2 lead on a sac-fly by Michael Bourn.  In the top of the 7th Nieuwenhuis walked, went to second on a ground out. Kevin Plawecki singled to make it 1st and 3rd. Michael Cuddyer then pinch hit for Niese and was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Curtis Granderson followed with a 2 run single to make it 4-3 Mets.  Tim Stauffer made is Met debut in the bottom of the 7th.  Daniel Castro singled and went to third when Daniel Murphy waved at a screaming liner by Freddie Freeman that went as a single.  Garcia then his a comebacker that Stauffer went for the double play allowing Castro to score and the game was tied at 4. In the bottom of the 8th Christian Bethancourt reached on an infield single was sacrificed to 2nd. Nick Swisher was hit by a pitch. After Markakis flew out for the 2nd out Garcia doubled down the left field line bringing home the go ahead run. Garcia’s 2 run sun aided single followed capping the 3 run inning.  But in the bottom of the 9th, the Met Magic happened again. With two out Ruben Tejada doubled, Curtis Granderson walked. And Daniel Murphy made up for all transgression in the game and clubbed a clutch 3 run game tying  homer, his 11th homer on the year and the game was tied at 7. In the top of the 10th, Nieuwenhuis walked and went to third on a dunk single to right by Tejada.  Hector Olivera made an error on a grounder by Plawecki bring home Nieuwenhuis with the go head run.  Lagares walked. Granderson was then walked with the bases drunk by Edwin Jackson and the Mets led 9-7. Danny Burawa came in in relief and walked Murphy to bring home Plawecki for a 10-7 lead. Bobby Parnell gets the win in relief he’s now 2-3 Niese left after 6, he allowed 8 hits 3 runs (2 earned) walking 1 and striking out 3. Addison Reed pitched the bottom of the 10th for his 2nd save as a Met. Garcia was the hitting star for the Braves going 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Castro also went 3 for 5. Edwin Jackson takes the loss falling to 2-3 as the Braves lose their 12th straight at home and 46th in their past 60 games.  Granderson drove in 3 RBI on the day; Murphy drove in 4 to lead the way.  With the win the Mets are now 21 games over .500 at 82-61 and they clinch a winning season. They also pull to .500 on the road now standing at 37-37. The Nationals won on Sunday to the Mets lead stays at 9 ½ games in the NL East.  Monday night it’s back home to Citi Field to play a 3 game set against the Marlins. Logan Verrett (1-1 3.06) goes for the Mets, Justin Nicolino (3-3 3.72) goes for the Fish.

What else can be said at this point?
The Braves are terrible, but the Mets went with their B squad, committed numerous defensive mistakes and STILL found a way to win.....
And hey, Parnell looked good.

Any little flicker of hope that the Nats might have had (we won 5-0 and the Mets are about to lose - maybe, just maybe - got doused by the Comeback Kids, who never say die.
