FISHER CATS AVOID RUMBLE PONY SWEEP: After collecting two wins in a doubleheader on Opening Day, Binghamton allowed four first-inning runs in an 8-3 series finale loss. Rumble Ponies starting pitcher Corey Oswalt settled down after his first Double-A inning, ultimately giving up five runs over four frames.

BINGHAMTON  STARTER: Binghamton’s series-opening starter is right-hander Casey Delgado. Entering his fifth professional season, Delgado readies for his second straight Southern Tier campaign. Last season, with Binghamton and St. Lucie, the 26-year old combined to go 12-8 with a 3.96 ERA in 24 appearances (23 starts).

PORTLAND STARTER: 25-year old righty Jacob Dahlstrand starts on the mound for the Sea Dogs. Already in his eighth professional season, Dahlstrand spent time with Portland, Lowell (BOS: SS-A), and the GCL Red Sox (BOS: R) in 2016 while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. The 2010 10th round draft pick combined for a 3-4 record with a 3.60 ERA in 8 starts. In his lone start against Binghamton last season, Dahlstrand allowed four runs over five innings and was hit with the loss in a 4-0 Binghamton victory

EXTINGUISHING THE FLAME: In the Rumble Ponies three-game series against the Fisher Cats, Binghamton’s bullpen was nearly flawless. Six pitchers combined to toss 7.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits. In the game one, Cory Burns sealed the win with a scoreless final 1.2 innings. Game two’s victory was entrusted to Tim Peterson and Corey Taylor, both of whom did not allow a run in the final two innings. Five of the six Rumble Pony pitchers to come out of the bullpen have not allowed a run.

MATT’S BAT: Rumble Ponies INF Matt Oberste has collected 4 RBIs through the team’s first three games. The 25-year old has accounted for 30.8 % (4/13) of the teams runs batted in and is tied for the team lead in hits (5, LJ Mazzilli). Last year, Oberste was second behind only Dominic Smith in home runs (9) and RBI (54). Oberste has already recorded two multiple-hit games.

AGAINST THE SEA DOGS: Rumble Ponies starter Casey Delgado was stellar in his lone 2016 appearance versus Portland on May 15, 2016. Delgado hurled six innings without allowing an earned run, struck out two, and did so on 88 pitches in the B-Mets 8-1 victory at Hadlock Field . It was Delgado’s only Binghamton start in which he did not allow an earned run.

GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER: Tonight’s game marks the first of 20 scheduled meetings between the Rumble Ponies and Sea Dogs. Binghamton will only play one other team in the league (New Hampshire, 21) more times than Portland.
