Fernando Martinez:
Fernando Martinez made his appearance in the Dominican League. He would like to make up for all the time he missed on the Mets major league roster because of a knee injury. So far, it is not a good start to the season as he opened the Dominican League hitting only .167 with five whiffs in 6 games.
Tobi Stoner:
The starting pitching has been the most effective resource for the Leones. This wasn’t true for Tobi Stoner’s last start where he was raked for seven runs in just over six innings of work
Anderson Hernandez:
Licey has put together a four game winning streak to put them in a share for first with the Leones. Anderson Hernandez has taken over the shortstop position from Ian Desmond and then Carlos Truinfel. He’s only hitting .261 but he has five stolen bases in six attempts. He should see a lot of playing time as the Mets utility man next year. (really? I thought that was Alex Cora’s job now?)
Benji Molina:
The Giants just announced they will not offer salary arbitration to any of their impending free agents, including catcher Bengie Molina, which means they will not gain any compensatory draft picks should Molina sign with another team… the Mets are said to be interested in signing Molina to a two-year contract. The Giants' decision helps Molina's cause, because the Mets or any other team now can do so without fear of losing a draft pick. - SFgate
Scott Schoeneweis:
Former Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Scott Schoeneweis' wife died from an overdose of cocaine and an anesthetic, lidocaine, an appellate court disclosed in a ruling released Tuesday. The ruling also said an investigation revealed evidence that Gabrielle Schoeneweis' cocaine use "may have caused harm to another person." That person was not identified. Gabrielle Schoeneweis was found dead on May 20 in the master bedroom of the couple's home in Fountain Hills, a Phoenix suburb. A three-judge Court of Appeals panel disclosed the cause of death in a ruling on whether an autopsy report and other records on Gabrielle Schoeneweis' death must be disclosed under Arizona's public records law. - ESPN
Nick Johnson:
First off, Johnson's the obvious "best of class" prize-winner. Add in that he's not a butcher around the bag, and unburdened with a rep as an RBI guy, and he becomes that odd Eddie Yost-style solution for a team that needs baserunners, an OBP contributor at a corner you can stick up in the second slot of an order, allowing you to stop farting around with slappy middle infielders giving play-by-play announcers too many opportunities to go through the motions talking about productive outs. A walk moves runners up quite nicely, after all. Among the more ambitious clubs, the Mets, Braves, Diamondbacks, and Giants could certainly use him, but he'd also help the Yankees, Rangers, or White Sox as a DH. -

MLB:
Major League Baseball Properties (MLBP) and the Topps Company, the leading creator and marketer of sports cards, today announced an exclusive multi-year licensing deal to make Topps the Official Baseball Card of Minor League Baseball. The agreement makes Topps the only trading card manufacturer licensed by MLBP to produce nationally-distributed trading cards of top draft picks and prospects within Minor League Baseball, and will give Topps the rights to names and logos of the 160 affiliated Minor League clubs and current Minor League players in uniform on baseball cards and stickers beginning on January 1, 2010. In addition, Topps will now have the exclusive use of the Pro Debut logo. Its first product will be its 2010 Topps Pro Debut Series 1 to be unveiled in early March 2010. - mlb
Billy Wagner:
The bullpen is going to be a priority for the Braves this off season because they are at risk of losing their top two relievers, Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez, to free agency. Wagner provides insurance for the Braves if one or both of them do not resign with the team.
For the Red Sox, Wagner's signing validates a calculated gamble on their part. It was widely considered that the Red Sox hoped Wagner would not accept arbitration after they offered it to him because they would prefer a compensation draft pick over having him return to the team for the approximately $8M a year he would receive in arbitration. The Red Sox will receive the 20th pick in the 2010 draft as compensation for losing Wagner along with a supplemental pick between the first and second rounds - baseballrumormill
Jose Reyes:
The Mets need production from Jose Reyes, who counts on speed to be effective. Problem is, Reyes didn't play after May due to a torn hamstring tendon. Reyes stole 134 bases in the 2007-08 seasons, and the Mets missed the 16 homers he contributed in '08. He was still on crutches in November after surgery. There is some interest in bringing back free agent Alex Cora, who can also play second base (sic).
Jenrry Mejia:
Mejia, 20, went 5-2 with a 2.89 ERA in rookie and short-season ball in 2008, but struggled after being promoted to Class AA (0-5, 4.47) in 2009. "He has a power arm with a curveball and changeup," Minaya says. "It's just going to take him some time to be consistent."
