Omar's Trades... You Tell Me

I combined all the trades that Omar Minaya has made as the General Manager of the New York Mets into one yearly trade of all the players (so far) that have made a difference in the major leagues:

2009:

The Mets traded P Billy Wagner, OF Ryan Church, and C Ramon Castro… for IF Anderson Hernandez, and OF Jeff Francoeur.

2008

The Mets traded P Aaron Heilman, IF Endy Chavez, RP Scott Schoeneweis, IF Anderson Hernandez, and OF Carlos Gomez… for RP J.J. Putz, OF Jeremy Reed, SP Sean Green, OF Trot Nixon, SP Johan Santana, and OF Angel Pagan.

2007

The Mets traded OF Lastings Milledge, and RP Guillermo Mota… for OF Ryan Church, C Brian Schneider, RP Brian Stokes, 1B Jeff Conine, and 3B Luis Castillo.

2006,

The Mets traded SP Brian Bannister, RP Matt Lindstrom, RP Heath Bell, OF Xavier Nady, 3B Jeff Keppinger, IF Kaz Matsui, P Jorge Julio, OF Angel Pagan, SP Kris Benson... for SP Oliver Perez, IF Ruben Gotay, RP Guillermo Mota, P Orlando Hernandez, P Jorge Julio, SP John Maine, and P Duaner Sanchez.

2005

The New York Mets traded 1B Mike Jacobs, SP Yusmeiro Petit, OF Mike Cameron, C/1B Jason Phillips, C Vance Wilson, and P Mike Stanton… For C Paul Lo Duca, 1B Carlos Delgado, OF Xavier Nady, P Kazuhisa Ishii, 1B Doug Mientkiewicz and 2B Anderson Hernandez.

Noticed that each year gets worse....

with either 2005 or 06 benefitting the team most....

and each coming year, the trades yielding less positive results for the mets

I would have to disagree. When looking at it in this yearly format, 2008 had to be the best. Johan, Putz, & Pagan for Endy and next to nothing. I know the Mets gave up more minor leaguers in those deals, but just judging by the format presented, that has to be the best year.

Frankly, if you look over the entire record of trading, it's not half bad.

Re John: "Johan, Putz, & Pagan for Endy and next to nothing."

Next to nothing for Johan, but also the commitment to wildly overpay him. It is helpful to have the luxury of eight figure contracts. otherwise, Omar doesnt get that deal.

But Phil...

Thta's the point about being a big market team.

You DO have the money and, if your profit and loss sheet is way in the black, why not?

Hmm, at first i went wait a minute.. Putz and Santana didnt play for us in '08, but then i remember that trade happened in January or February.

2006 looks very bad at 1st, but then i see the last 4 out of 5 names and say garbage, garbage, garbage, good, injured. Mota and Sanchez may not have been good after '06 but that year they were incredible.

to me it looks like they did well in 2005, 2006, and 2008. In 2009, they needed to trade for a new mediacl staff.

the point we're all trying to make here is the fact that Omar hasn't had that horrible of a trading history...

not like his drafting and international signings which have been way below par...
